The Human Resources (HR) Organization at the University of Virginia offers an exciting Director opportunity within our Talent Management organization. Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Talent Development, the Director of Organizational Development and Belonging (DODB) is a strategic leader within HR who, as a member of the Talent Development team, is responsible for driving initiatives that foster a positive, strengths-based, inclusive workplace culture. This position will lead efforts to build upon the HR Foundations culture initiative, develop and implement programs aimed at enhancing employee engagement, foster inclusion and belonging, support Talent Development through a "whole person" lens, and promote overall organizational effectiveness. The Director will collaborate closely with senior leadership, HR business partners, and cross-functional teams to align organizational goals with people-centric strategies. This role is one of three Directors reporting to the Associate Vice President of Talent Development and may have direct reports. Additionally, the Director serves as an Organizational Development Consultant, carrying a caseload accordingly. Key Responsibilities Strategic Planning : Develop and execute a comprehensive HR Organizational Development strategy aligned with HR's Pillars, the goals and objectives of the HR Roadmap developed in 2024, and the University's mission, values, and strategic objectives as laid out in the 2030 Plan. Continuously assess and refine strategies to promote a culture of belonging and enhance employee engagement in HR. Play a leadership role in making strategic recommendations and generating new ways to create a coaching culture and implement engagement surveys that provide actionable data. Inclusion and Belonging : Lead UVA HR initiatives to foster an inclusive workplace where all employees feel valued and empowered. Collaborate and partner with University and Medical Center stakeholders to promote inclusion and cultivate a sense of belonging among employees from all backgrounds. Oversee the HR Culture and Strategy Working Group and projects and manage projects and programs within the Foundations strategy, including HR Employee Experience sessions and culture onboarding, First Fridays, All Hands Meetings, Leadership All Hands, and the Dream Summit. Talent Development : Lead the implementation of the Gallup Strengths program across Grounds for University Staff and collaborating with other Talent Management teams including Performance Management, Learning and Development, and Career Navigation) to embedding Strengths into the workplace culture, ensuring alignment with the organizational HR Roadmap. Organizational Development and Effectiveness : Drive initiatives to enhance organizational effectiveness, including change management, employee retention, and team effectiveness. Partner with appropriate teams in Talent Management to collaborate with leaders in the Academic Division and UVA Health to implement best practices for Performance Management, feedback processes, and succession planning. Employee Engagement: Develop strategies to measure and improve employee engagement, morale, and satisfaction. Lead initiatives to promote a positive work environment, enhance communication channels, and recognize employee contributions. Clarify how this team will work with the Academic Reward & Recognition team, and specifically the academic vision for the Reward & Recognition project. Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement : Collaborate with cross-functional teams and senior leadership to integrate organizational development initiatives into business strategies. Build strong relationships with key stakeholders to ensure support and alignment for HR initiatives. Data Analysis and Reporting : Utilize data analytics to measure the effectiveness of Organizational Development initiatives and track progress toward goals. Generate regular reports and metrics to communicate insights and inform decision-making. Play a leadership role in generating strategic recommendations based on data insights. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred. Minimum of eight years of experience in Organizational Development, Talent Management, or a relevant related HR role. Demonstrated experience leading and working to execute initiatives seeking to create inclusive workplaces with a strong sense of belonging. Strong understanding of Organizational Development principles, change management, and Talent Development best practices. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills. Ability to influence and collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization. Proficiency in data analysis and reporting, with experience using HR metrics to drive decision-making. Commitment to promoting a culture of belonging and advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace. Inclusion and Belonging : Strong commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace culture. Experience in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. Talent Development : Knowledge of best practices in talent management, including employee development, performance management, and succession planning. Ability to embed programs like the Gallup Strengths into the workplace culture. Employee Engagement : Ability to develop strategies to measure and improve employee engagement, morale, and satisfaction. Experience in creating a positive work environment and recognizing employee contributions. Data Analysis and Reporting : Proficiency in utilizing data analytics to measure the effectiveness of HR initiatives. Ability to generate reports and metrics that inform decision-making and provide actionable insights. Organizational Development : Expertise in enhancing organizational effectiveness through change management, employee retention, and team effectiveness. Experience in crafting the vision for succession planning as an HR service offering. Communication Skills : Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively to various audiences. Problem-Solving and Decision-Making : Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to make informed decisions based on data and strategic considerations. Project Management : Ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously. Strong organizational and time management skills. Preferred Qualifications: Certification in Organizational Development, change management, or related field. Experience working in higher ed setting and/or diverse environment. Familiarity with HR technology systems and tools for Talent Management and Learning and Development.
