Responsibilities
The Senior Equipment Mechanic is responsible for assisting in the management of the City's developed and undeveloped parkland, facilities, right of ways, and beaches thru the maintenance and repair of equipment.
* Provides timely repairs to equipment to keep operations moving smoothly. * Requires technical knowledge and understanding of small engine and equipment maintenance. * Requires the ability to prioritize repairs. * Disassembles equipment and sub-assemblies and inspects parts for wear or damage using precision measuring tools and equipment. * Analyzes mechanical problems, makes the final decision on maintenance procedures. * Replaces worn or damaged parts and reassembles and tests units in accordance with technical manuals and established standards. * Schedules and implements preventative maintenance in accordance to manufacture's guidelines. * Determines parts and materials required to maintain the equipment. * Prepares schedules for routine preventative maintenance to minimize equipment down time. * Tests equipment and/or vehicles using diagnostic tools to determine problem and resolution. * Assists technicians in diagnosing and repairing all types of gasoline and diesel powered equipment. * Performs maintenance repairs and service as needed. * Fabricates parts and equipment including mounts, brackets and shields. Inspects work-in-progress, authorizes parts requests, and verifies status of orders parts. Determines if parts will be repaired or replaced. Maintains accurate records of work activities and materials used and makes oral or written reports on work and equipment status as required. * Monitors repair orders for completeness and accuracy requesting changes when required. * Diagnoses, maintains, repairs, and rebuilds or adjusts air, hydraulic brakes, hydraulic and electrical systems and components, computerized engine and transmission controls, power trains, gas and diesel engines, cooling systems, air conditioning and steering components. * Uses and disposes of hazardous materials according to established guidelines. * Replaces high and low pressure hydraulic hoses. * May be asked to perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
* Requires High School Diploma or GED * Two (2) years of related experience * Must possess or be able to obtain a Class A CDL within 9 months of hire * A valid driver's license is required * Successful out of state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Application review and the City may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
