Position Scope:
The Manager, Employee & Labour Relations will serve as a strategic partner across OMERS and Oxford, providing expert advice and support on complex employee and labour relations issues. This role involves leading high-stakes investigations, managing terminations and severance negotiations, driving alternative dispute resolution processes, and overseeing performance improvement and labour relations strategies. The Manager will offer strategic guidance to people leaders on the interpretation and application of legislation, processes, policies, and collective agreements across multiple jurisdictions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Advisory: Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on employee and labour relations matters, providing strategic insights and recommendations.
  • Complex Investigations: Lead and manage high-stakes workplace investigations, draft comprehensive reports, and implement corrective actions and workplace remediation strategies.
  • Termination and Severance Management: Oversee the full cycle of termination processes, including complex severance negotiations and risk mitigation.
  • Performance: Design and deliver advanced skills enhancement programs for employees and people leaders, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence.
  • Data-Driven Strategy: Utilize advanced data analytics to identify trends and areas of opportunity. Develop and communicate strategic recommendations, aligning on proactive measures to address workplace concerns.
  • Employee Experience Enhancement: Strategically improve the overall employee experience through targeted initiatives and programs.
  • Process Innovation: Leverage cutting-edge technology to optimize and innovate HR processes, driving efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Workplace Accommodations: Review and approve complex non-medical workplace accommodations, ensuring compliance with legal and organizational standards.
  • Policy Interpretation and Guidance: Provide expert interpretation of policies and collective agreements, offering strategic guidance to people leaders.
  • Mediation and Cultural Assessments: Conduct mediations and comprehensive workplace assessments to enhance workplace culture and resolve conflicts.
  • Labour Relations Strategy: Manage and lead labour relations processes, including grievances, arbitrations, labour management meetings, and collective bargaining, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Educational Programs: Develop and implement advanced education programs on Employee Relations topics for people leaders, promoting a deep understanding of best practices and legal requirements.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with HR and other departments on complex policy and compliance issues, driving integrated solutions.
  • Special Projects: Lead and contribute to high-impact special projects, as required, supporting the strategic objectives of the organization.


To succeed in this role, you have:
  • 7+ years of HR Generalist with Employee Relations experience.
  • Completed post-secondary education, preferably in Human Resources, Law or Business Administration, CHRL strongly recommended.
  • Global employee and labour relations experience in US, Europe and Asia Pacific Regions is an asset
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to interface with external parties (e.g., legal counsel, union representatives) with strong understanding of union environment and CBAs.
  • Solid understanding of legislation, policies and standards.
  • Strong relationship management, effective listening, communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong judgment and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize multiple initiatives and deadlines
  • Adaptable, with a continuous improvement mindset
  • Knowledge of HR systems and technology. Working knowledge of Workday an asset.
