Description The Assistant Costume Shop Manager works under the supervision of the Costume Shop Manager and Production Manager to provide costume support for the Aspen Opera Theatre & VocalARTS program. AOTVA is under the co-artistic direction of Renée Fleming and Patrick Summers at the Aspen Music Festival & School (AMFS). The upcoming season will utilize the AMFS orchestras, the 2,050 seat Klein Music Tent, and Historic Wheeler Opera House throughout an encompassing 8-week summer season. and Puccini’s

La Bohème. Responsibilities Assist in the building and fitting of costumes for an eight-week season consisting of two opera productions and weekly public opera scenes classes. Take precise fitting notes. Serve as wardrobe supervisor for both opera productions. Provide patterning and draping work and sew mock-ups and finished costumes under the supervision of the Costume Shop Manager, referencing notes given by the designer and/or director. Provide craft work including painting and dying. Requirements Graduated with a BA/BFA in Technical Theater with an emphasis in costume design or equivalent professional experience. Previous sewing experience in a theatrical setting, required. Previous experience working as a wardrobe supervisor, required. Ideal candidates will also have experience working with theatrical wigs/hair and makeup. Costume crafts experience is preferred. Candidates must have sensitivity to the needs of staff, designers, guest artists, faculty, and student performers and a proven ability to work well with others. Candidates must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and materials or, of greater weights in tandem with additional crew member assistance and be comfortable and confident climbing stairs and ladders. A valid driver’s license is preferred. Dates June 10, 2025-August 26, 2025 Compensation $16/hour plus housing provided by AMFS (valued at a minimum of $4.91/hour depending on location.) Overtime $24/hour. Benefits include AMFS season pass and paid sick time.
