Salary:
$310,000+ per year Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Advise life sciences clients on comprehensive patent portfolio management, including development, prosecution, and enforcement of patents across domestic and international markets. Lead client engagements on strategic IP lifecycle planning, facing complex matters such as second-generation drugs, biologics, and international patent strategy. Conduct thorough due diligence assessments and provide high-quality counseling on transactions, infringement, defense, and avoidance strategies. Represent clients in high-stakes patent disputes before the USPTO, including post-grant proceedings and other contentious matters. Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to create bespoke patent protection strategies that are aligned with client goals in both discovery-stage biotechnology and established pharmaceutical contexts. Develop and implement IP strategies enhancing the value of client assets, including advice on non-infringement, invalidity, and competitive positioning. Engage in high-impact patent portfolio management driving advancements and innovation in the life sciences field. Minimum Position Qualifications: JD from a top-tier law school with a strong academic record. Active Bar Admission in Massachusetts. At least four years of substantive experience in patent counseling and prosecution within the life sciences industry. Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related discipline. Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Demonstrated experience working with biotechnology companies and aggressively managing international patent portfolios. Preferred Qualifications: Prior involvement in the pharmaceutical industry preferred. Depth of knowledge in life cycle management and post-grant proceedings. Experience in client interfacing and strategic planning roles within intellectual property functions. Skills: Exceptional analytical and strategic thinking skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively negotiate and influence. Advanced problem-solving skills with a thorough understanding of patent law and its implications in business strategy.
