The Research Foundation for The State University of New York at Stony Brook, Stony Brook, New York, United States, 11790
Required Qualifications:
(as evidenced upon attached resume) Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, or a closely related field. Three years of related research experience. Minimum of one first-authored peer-reviewed publication.
Preferred Qualifications: Research experience in the treatment of emerging contaminants such as 1,4-dioxane. Experience in the development and testing of bench-scale and/or pilot-scale water treatment systems. Experience working on nanomaterial synthesis and fluorescence-based sensing technologies for the detection of phosphate in water. Experience working with analytical instruments to detect emerging contaminants (LC-MS/MS, GC-MS etc.) and fluorescence spectroscopy.
Brief Description of Duties: The Senior Postdoctoral Associate will work in a multidisciplinary team environment for the Center for Clean Water Technology (CCWT) at Stony Brook University, reporting directly to Dr. Xinwei Mao. The CCWT seeks a highly motivated Senior Postdoctoral Associate to perform research in the treatment of 1,4-dioxane and other emerging contaminants, as well as developing fluorescence-based sensors for phosphate detection in water. The successful incumbent will have a strong background in water treatment processes (adsorption, advanced oxidation/reduction processes, microbiology, etc.), fluorescence spectroscopy, nanomaterial synthesis, and characterization.
The successful candidate will design and implement bench and/or pilot scale experiments to evaluate treatment techniques for removal of 1,4-dioxane and other emerging contaminants. The candidate will develop and optimize advanced fluorescence-based sensors for the detection of low concentrations of phosphate in water. The Senior Postdoctoral Associate will work closely with researchers from the New York State Department of Health and Department of Environmental Conservation.
Responsibilities will include: Literature review and analysis of existing and emerging technologies for addressing targeted CECs. Literature review and analysis of current and emerging technologies in sensor development. Design and implementation of bench and/or pilot scale experiments. Sample collection, preparation, and analysis. Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals and/or presentation to report on the outcomes of the research. Other duties as assigned.
