Postdoctoral Associate
Required Qualifications:
(as evidenced by an attached resume) PhD (or foreign equivalent) in Physical Sciences (Geosciences, Chemistry, Physics) or a closely related discipline; applicant must have demonstrated experience, through publication including thesis, in working with in situ apparatus, with calibration of this apparatus and with an experimental program using in situ techniques.
Preferred Qualifications: ●
PhD in experimental science/engineering or related field with at least 3 year’s experience in science or engineering at synchrotron x-ray user facilities. ●
Proven experience in adapting apparatus and software development, including examples of CAD design skills, software packages developed and maintained. ●
Experience in powder diffraction. ●
Familiarity with modern 3-D printing techniques, high temperature furnace development, DAC methodologies, high level scripting (C, python, IDL, matlab for example) ●
Experience with synchrotron beamline operation and control. ●
Experience in spectroscopy. Brief Description of Duties: The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator in the
Department of Geosciences
. The incumbent will push ahead with new avenues as part of a wider effort in synthesis, and
in situ
work at SBU and National Facilities. ●
Individual research in discovery and testing of novel methodologies/phases. ●
Interaction with theory groups to select targets for synthesis. ●
Preparation of manuscripts and beamline proposals with graduate students. ●
Supervision and training of graduate students in synthesis/in situ scattering. ●
Travel and aid in data collection at neutron and x-ray sources. ●
Set-up, testing and supervise operation of in situ sample environments. ●
Overall Project supervision and coordination. ●
Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission. Special Notes: This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
