The Non-Profit Accounting Manager will be responsible for managing the financial operations and ensuring the integrity and accuracy of financial records for the organization. This position involves overseeing accounting processes, financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance with non-profit regulations. The Accounting Manager will collaborate closely with the senior leadership team, program managers, and external auditors to ensure financial transparency, efficiency, and effective use of resources.Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management & Reporting:
- Oversee the preparation and maintenance of financial statements, ensuring they reflect accurate and up-to-date information.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management, board of directors, and stakeholders.
- Analyze financial data and provide insights to guide decision-making and resource allocation.
- Develop and manage the annual budget in collaboration with program managers and senior leadership.
- Monitor actual performance against the budget, identifying variances and making adjustments as needed.
- Prepare financial forecasts to ensure financial stability and sustainability of the organization.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations as well as accounting standards specific to non-profit organizations (e.g., GAAP, FASB).
- Implement and maintain internal control systems to safeguard assets and ensure the integrity of financial information.
- Oversee the preparation and submission of tax returns (e.g., IRS Form 990) and ensure compliance with grant requirements.
- Monitor and manage the financial aspects of grants, including budgeting, reporting, and reconciliation.
- Work with program managers to ensure grants are properly allocated and expended in accordance with grant terms and conditions.
- Supervise and support the day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger management.
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of financial transactions and maintain organized financial records.
- Coordinate with external auditors to ensure successful audits and the timely submission of audit reports.
- Address audit recommendations and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Serve as the primary contact for financial inquiries from external stakeholders, such as auditors, funders, and donors.
- Supervise, mentor, and train accounting staff, fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment.
- Provide guidance on accounting policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Conduct financial analysis to assess the financial health of the organization and identify areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with leadership to align financial planning with the organization's long-term strategic goals.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or MBA preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a managerial role, preferably in the non-profit sector.
- Strong knowledge of non-profit accounting principles, including fund accounting and compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Financial Edge) and Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with budgeting, financial forecasting, and financial reporting.
- Familiarity with IRS regulations and filing requirements for non-profits (e.g., Form 990).
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and problem-solving ability.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- Ability to work collaboratively and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of grant management systems and reporting requirements.
- Experience working with an audit team or overseeing audit processes.
- Experience in financial management for a multi-site or multi-program non-profit.
Compensation: $100,000-$125,000 a year
Salary is based on a range of factors that include relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications.
