Claims Examiner, Life and Health reinsurance (Hybrid Work Model)

We are looking for a new Claims Examiner who is eager to grow and learn within Swiss Re's Life and Health claims department!

About the Role

This role is responsible for the administration of individual and group life claims of low to moderate complexity as defined by Swiss Re's internal triage models. Category of claims include waiver of premium, critical illness, accidental death, contestable death and foreign death benefit types. In this role you will engage with the claim departments of Swiss Re's clients and collaborate with the Technical Accounting Department to gather information and resolve coverage issues that may arise.

Additional key responsibilities include:

  • Work independently to accurately evaluate information received in the Claims Department and record liabilities in a timely manner
  • Verify data in life index and from the policy database for new claim notifications
  • Determine total exposure on a ceded life policy by executing and evaluating appropriate reports, including retro coverage
  • Verify claimant information against the OFAC database and ensure appropriate reporting of liabilities by confirming receipt of premium
  • Evaluate appropriate category and triage action needed on incoming mail and requests
  • Support continued improvement by recommending identified process efficiencies and in ongoing training and mentorship of claims examiners.
This position will be essential in determining our risk on claims presented to Swiss Re by client companies. Independent decisions are made daily concerning claims up to level of authority and with adherence to the department guidelines and procedures. Accuracy is key as errors could result in substantial liability to SwissRe through reporting incorrect claim liability or failure to identify retrocession exposure.

About the Team

You will join a very experienced and motivated team of Claims professionals that are handling reinsurance Life claims and premiums for Swiss Re. Our responsibilities require regular interactions with our colleagues across Claims and Technical Accounting, and we have a strong link to the other Business Management teams collaborating daily to deliver the best service and most value to our clients.

About You

Self-motivated and cooperative, you excel working both independently and, in a team setting! You bring solid analytical skills and high attention to detail, and work well in a multifaceted environment with ability to navigate through periods of change and ambiguity.

Additional requirements include:
  • Knowledge of insurance and a general understanding of reinsurance required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent data analysis and organizational skills
  • Demonstrate and utilize effective problem-solving skills and proactive critical thinking skills.
  • Willingness to complete industry related courses and attend educational seminars as deemed appropriate by management


Some travel may be required.
