Job Title: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Job Specialty: General Surgery Job Duration: Not Specified Shift: Varied Days/Evenings, 80 Hours Per Pay Period (8 & 12 hours) Guaranteed Hours: Not Specified Experience: 1 year of previous Surgical Technologist experience preferred; willing to consider new graduates who have successfully completed clinical experience License: Not Specified Certifications: - Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through a governing body, e.g., National Board Surgical Technologists (NBST), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), or certification obtained within 12 months of hire - Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Must-Have: - Graduate from an accredited Associate degree surgical technologist program - Solid PC skills, including MS applications and Internet skills Job Description: The Surgical Technologist facilitates the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures. This role provides assistance and support to the surgeon and operative team to ensure a safe environment, properly functioning equipment, and adherence to surgical concepts and infection control principles. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: - Assist the surgeon during operative procedures, performing duties within the scope of practice, such as holding retractors, cutting suture material as directed by the surgeon, connecting drains to suction apparatus, and applying dressings. - Create a safe environment by implementing surgical asepsis, sterile technique, surgical conscience, universal precautions, and all relevant safety procedures. - Care for instruments and equipment before, during, and after surgery to ensure their proper functioning for future use. - Participate in Quality Improvement activities to ensure exceptional care for surgical services customers and families. - Recognize emergency situations and respond promptly and effectively. - Collaborate with other healthcare providers to ensure optimal outcomes for customers. - Evaluate one's own practice in relation to professional standards of practice and relevant statutes and regulations. - Recognize and comply with legal, regulatory, accrediting, and procedural requirements related to areas of responsibility. - Understand and follow principles and standards as outlined in the organization's Code of Conduct. - Protect customer and team member privacy, accessing related information only as needed to perform job duties. - Report violations or areas of concern to the appropriate parties through established communication methods.
