The Law Offices of Anna R. Yum is seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Paralegal to join our growing legal team. This role is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual who thrives in a fast-paced, client-focused environment at a highly recognized and esteemed criminal defense firm. As a Senior Legal Assistant, you will be pivotal in supporting attorneys, managing client relations, mentoring and supervising junior legal assistants, and ensuring the efficient operation of our legal practice.
Responsibilities
Leadership & Mentorship: • Supervise and mentor junior legal assistants to ensure the smooth operation of case management and administrative tasks. • Conduct regular training sessions and performance reviews.
Case Management: • Organize and maintain case files, ensuring all documentation is accurate and up to date. • Track deadlines, manage firm calendars, and schedule court dates, depositions, and client meetings.
Client Communication: • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, keeping them informed about the status of their cases. • Draft and send correspondence, and assist with client intake and follow-up.
Attorney Support: • Prepare case files, legal documents, and trial binders for attorneys. • Assist in the preparation of pleadings, motions, subpoenas, and other legal filings. • Conduct preliminary legal research and gather necessary case information.
Operational Efficiency: • Develop and implement efficient administrative processes to improve workflow. • Ensure all filings and submissions comply with court rules and deadlines. • Work with lawyers to prepare for trial by conducting research on legal articles, preparing and organizing exhibits, organizing and coordinating witnesses, filing motions, and assisting with client meetings • Organize our case filing systems to ensure all documents are properly sorted and easy to locate, and other administrative duties as needed • Hold client interviews to gather information about their legal problems • Draft subpoenas and coordinate with process servers
Qualifications
• College diploma required; advanced training or degree preferred. • Minimum of
5 years of paralegal or legal assistant experience
in a criminal defense or litigation setting. • Strong leadership and mentorship skills. • Proficiency in legal document preparation and case management software. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion. • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail. • Experience managing complex calendars and deadlines. • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. • ABA-approved paralegal certificate program such as an Associate's degree or proprietary school program in paralegal studies, Bachelor's degree desired • Strong preference for candidates who have completed a paralegal professional certification or have an advanced paralegal education • Strong oral and written communication skills • Candidates should possess high-level organizational skills, and time-management skills
