The mission of the Healthy Environment Alliance of Utah (HEAL Utah) is to protect Utah’s environment and its people by promoting clean air, clean energy, and comprehensive solutions to radioactive and toxic waste.Organization's Programs and Services:

Grassroots and policy advocacy focused on creating evidence-based solutions that mitigate harms to impacted communities, improve environmental public health, and address climate change in the areas of air quality, clean energy, exposure to radioactive and toxic waste, and environmental justice as a whole.Skills & Talents of Ideal Candidate

Involvement in a dynamic, statewide environmental advocacy non-profit that has effectively influenced environmental policy in Utah for over two decades. : 3-6 hours/ monthPosition Summary:

Determine mission and purpose: It is the board’s responsibility to create and periodically review a statement of mission and purpose that articulates the organization’s goals, strategies and primary constituents.Ensure effective planning: Boards must actively participate in an overall planning process and assist in monitoring the plan’ goals and evaluating staff’s progress towards those goals.Be the governing body: Individuals who sit on the board are responsible for overseeing the organization’s activities. Board members meet periodically to discuss and vote on the affairs of the organization.Ensure fiscal health: The board assumes fiduciary oversight and monitors the organization’s overall financial well-being. The board will approve a sound budget for the organization each year and make other key financial decisions pertaining to issues such as investment directions and reserve funds.Help raise funds: In addition to contributing financially to HEAL, as appropriate, Board members support fundraising efforts in two main areas: helping to identify, cultivate and engage prospective major donors and businesses; and regularly inviting people to HEAL Utah events and assisting in staff in thanking donors for contributions;Participate in key committees:

To focus board efforts there are various committees focusing on financial stability, policy, and community action. These committees will work with the staff periodically on these key responsibilities. From time to time other Committees will be formed on a temporary basis. It is expected that members participate in (1) committee.Enhance the organization’s public standing: The board should help articulate the organization’s mission, accomplishments, and goals to the public, participating in programs and campaigns to amplify the effectiveness of the organization’s activities.Hire, evaluate and supervise the Executive Director: Hire, evaluate and determine the compensation package for HEAL’s executive director.In addition, a board member participates, when possible, in the final round of interviews for all HEAL Utah staff positions.How to Apply
