Public Works Director

The City of Emerson is currently accepting applications for a full-time Public Works Director. This position involves planning, organizing, and directing the activities of the public works department.Key Responsibilities:Oversee drinking water utility, sanitary sewer utility, sanitation collection, streets, stormwater system, parks, vehicle maintenance, and building maintenance.Manage and submit reports to regulatory agencies.Plan and manage departmental budgets and comply with purchasing policies.Inspect contracted work performedconduct performance evaluations.Assist with GIS, zoning, and land use permits.Work outdoors in various climates including heat, cold, rain, and snow.Minimum Qualifications:Familiarity with water and wastewater treatment facilities, street repairs, building maintenance, parks, rights of way, and inspections.Knowledge of construction materials, procedures, tools, equipment, and safety precautions.Ability to follow oral and written instructions and work independently.Physical ability to bend, stoop, walk on uneven terrain, and lift up to 50 lbs.High school diploma or equivalent GED.Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening.Preferred Qualifications:Associate’s Degree, or the equivalent, in engineering, vocational, or technical training in construction or related fields.Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.Compensation:Starting salary: $52,000 - $75,000 (dependent upon experience).Comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, dental and vision insurance, disability insurance, cancer plan, accident plan, critical illness plan, flexible spending account, life insurance, paid time off, defined benefit retirement plan, and 457b plan.How to Apply:Applications can be downloaded from
