Plans, collects, develops, coordinates and monitors the management of geographic information for departmental data.Essential Functions/ Job Competencies/ Physical Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.Collect various information for the purpose of developing geographic information systems databases, dictionaries, and related documentation for use by the department in the normal course of operations.Performs field visits for the purpose of collecting and developing equipment inventories for asset management purposes.Helps develop and maintains multiple databases for department operations to include traffic signals, traffic signs, pavements markings, streetlights, speed humps, and related.Works closely with staff to coordinate the collecting of information and data to develop and maintain Geographic information systems databases.Works closely with staff to develop custom geographic information systems mapping as needed.Performs technical duties in the maintenance, development, and operation of the geographic information systems.Creates, maintains, and edits departmental databases, including the preparation of data dictionaries and documentation.Prepares a variety of analysis of electronic information, including the preparation of multi-layered and linked maps and tabular data; prepares graphic materials and assists staff in interpreting the results.Ensures the quality and accuracy of a variety of geographic information system data, including researching and revising maps and data from other data sources.Performs related work as required.COMPETENCIES FOR SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE OF JOB DUTIES

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Geography, Information Systems, or related field.At least one (1) years of experience in geographic information systemsValid Licenses and Certifications

Valid Texas Driver License. If applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver License must be obtained within 6 months of employment.

As part of the minimum requirements for all positions with the City of Laredo, a thorough background check and certified school transcripts will be required from all applicants who are offered employment.
