A law firm in Cranford, NJ, is seeking a Junior Mechanical Prosecution Attorney with 2-4 years of experience to join their team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical or biomedical engineering, physics, or a related field. This role requires expertise in patent prosecution, including drafting patent applications, analyzing patentability, and providing pre-litigation advice.Duties
Handle a prosecution docket, including drafting, filing, and prosecuting patent applications.Conduct prior art research and analyze patentability and freedom to operate issues.Provide pre-litigation advice on patent-related matters.Review and analyze patents and patent applications for compliance with legal requirements.Collaborate with clients to understand their inventions and protect their intellectual property.Stay updated on industry trends and changes in patent law to provide informed legal advice.Assist in preparing and filing responses to Office Actions and other communications with the patent office.Requirements
2-4 years of experience in patent prosecution or a related legal field.Strong background in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, physics, or a similar technical field.Proven experience in prior art research and patentability analysis.Experience with medical devices is a plus.Education
J.D. from an accredited law school.Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, physics, or a related technical field.Certifications
Admission to the state bar.Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is preferred.Skills
Strong communication and investigational skills.Ability to draft and prosecute patent applications effectively.Proficiency in analyzing and interpreting technical and legal information.Experience with medical device patents is a plus.Excellent organizational and time management skills.Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
