Senior Associate Scientist, Metabolomics

Alnylam Pharmaceuticals, Cambridge, Massachusetts, us, 02140

This role is considered On-Site.Overview

Alnylam's Research department is seeking a highly motivated Senior Associate Scientist in Metabolomics. We use untargeted and targeted liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) metabolomics/lipidomics to support target discovery and validation efforts (e.g. biomarker identification and pharmacodynamic measurements) for our RNAi-based therapeutics. The successful candidate will have a background in biological sample preparation for small molecules/endogenous metabolites, LC-MS/MS operation, and data analysis. Ideally, the candidate will also have some experience with mammalian cell culture, molecular biology techniques, and computational workflows for handling large omics-level data sets.Responsibilities

Design, validate, and apply LC-MS/MS methods for metabolite/small molecule quantification to identify biomarkers, characterize pharmacodynamic activity, and screen novel drug targets.Perform end-to-end metabolite sample preparation protocols for cultured cells, biofluids, and solid tissues.Conduct wet lab experiments, e.g. cell culture, to support metabolomics workflows.Maintain QC records, analyze data, and document protocols/results in a clearly organized electronic lab notebook.Perform regular maintenance and troubleshoot LC-MS instruments as needed.Communicate results in team meetings.Qualifications

Minimum of Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, biological engineering, chemistry, biochemistry, biology, or related field required.Master's Degree and/or 3+ years relevant academic or industry experience preferred.Direct experience with LC-MS/MS-based methods for small molecule/metabolite quantification and general analytical biochemistry techniques (e.g. standard curve construction, making buffers) is essential.Familiarity with metabolite extraction/purification from cultured cells, tissues, and/or biofluids is highly desirable.Experience with mammalian cell culture and/or basic molecular biology techniques (e.g. qRT-PCR, Western blots) is desirable.General familiarity with biochemistry/cellular metabolism. Some familiarity with basic programming languages, particularly Python, is a strong plus.Strong written and oral communication skills.Strong abilities to work both independently and in a team environment.Intellectual curiosity, a passion for science, and a willingness to ask questions.About Alnylam:

Alnylam Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: ALNY) has led the translation of RNA interference (RNAi) into a whole new class of innovative medicines with the potential to transform the lives of people afflicted with rare and more prevalent diseases. Based on Nobel Prize-winning science, RNAi therapeutics represent a powerful, clinically validated approach to treating diseases at their genetic source by "interfering" with mRNA that cause or contribute to disease. Since our founding in 2002, Alnylam has led the RNAi Revolution and continues to turn scientific possibility into reality. Our culture:
