Volta develops innovative solutions for de-carbonizing housing at an affordable price, creating more comfortable and healthy living for occupants, and a good return on investment for developers.The intern will apply general building practices to hands-on zero-carbon home construction that is in progress.The hands-on building will expand the intern's knowledge of green home building and techniques that will prepare him/her for working with other trades in the construction business, and could prepare them for completing MIOSHA Certifications.Essential Duties and Responsibilities, while learning Safety Management in this field:Create and implement safety rules, regulations, and procedures to minimize the risk of accidents or injuries occurring on the job site.Inspect the worksite each day to ensure the site is safe to enter and work in, conduct routine safety audits to ensure all personnel, materials, and equipment are in compliance with government safety regulations, provide safety training sessions, analyze and investigate accident reports and incident inquiries and keep track of incident metrics.Additionally, using various materials such as siding and trim, hardwood flooring, wood doors and trim, custom-made cabinetry, tile, concrete work and excavation, solar PV components, PEX plumbing, heat pumps and more in residential multi-family structures.Typical Safety Manager Responsibilities:Daily enforcement of Rules and regulationsWeekly InspectionsMaintaining records of inspections and safety planUpdating Safety BoardsGiving Safety BriefingsProviding Safety TrainingHelp installing foundations and earth workFraming walls, porches and decksExterior siding and trimInstalling low-voltage lighting, solar-electric systems and batteriesInstalling radiant floor heating, PEX plumbing and domestic water supply systemsInstalling ducting, ventilation equipment and split system heat pumpsInstalling hardwood flooringFitting and installing trim, doors, stairs and hardware.Measuring, cutting, and joining materials made of wood or wood substitutes.Reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and sketches.Participating in tours for the public and industry professionalsQualifications:Intern must be able to learn to read building plans.Safety Manager must know how to use power tools for cutting and shaping wood components along with other materialBasic knowledge of electrical wiring, plumbing and/or mechanical systems is a plus.Ability to problem-solve, writing down and obtaining approval for solutions before installing them.Good at organizing work spaces and job sites; clean and safe work environments.NOTE:

Because this is a SkillBridge Internship, it is understood that no single candidate will have equal expertise in all the areas of responsibility listed. Successful candidates will possess a compelling combination of many of them and the self-awareness and wisdom to leverage existing and/or new resources in the area(s) where they lack personal mastery.If the SkillBridge candidate and Volta Homes want to continue working together after the internship, the intern would start in a construction position while continuing to learn Safety Management; at approximately $40K - $70K per year, depending on skills and qualifications.Other:Not all internships include certification training by Vets2PM, as many host companies include their own internship-focused training instead.
