Data ScientistJob Duties:Develop and implement analytics-enabled solutions to improve business processes, generate insights, support business goals, and develop strategy.Own and deliver complete predictive modeling projects of moderate scope and manage assigned tasks on more complex predictive modeling projects.Utilize knowledge of different financial markets such as Forex, Commodities, and Credit Rates; and operational aspects of trade flows.Analyze large data sets and prepare data for predictive modeling.Apply models and methods such as classification and regressions (Linear, Logit, Multinomial Logit, Poisson, Proportional Odds, Lasso, Ridge), Decision Trees, Random Forest, GBM, SVD, SVM, Text Mining, etc. to solve business problems ranging from Marketing, Finance and Operations across organization’s geographies and divisions.Implement unsupervised machine learning models such as k-means clustering, k-mode clustering (Traditional, Bagged, Hierarchical), PCA model, etc. to segment data and improve business strategy and minimize risk.Perform sentiment analysis on data using NLP techniques such as lemmatizing, standardizing, count vectorizing, etc.Utilize knowledge of Topic Modeling techniques.Demonstrate shared value through the operationalization of algorithms into business process.Use code hosting platforms such as GitHub/Gitlab; and cloud platforms such as Azure ML.Execute model evaluation techniques such as ROC Curve, Accuracy, Precision, and R-Squared to select best model.Communicate results of cases of moderate complexity to business partners and recommend solutions to more senior data scientists and stakeholders.Utilize knowledge of complex financial products such as Derivatives, Options, Credit Default Swaps, Mutual Funds, etc. and associated modeling techniques.May telecommute from any location within the Metropolitan Boston, MA area.Minimum Requirements:Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Information Systems, Data Science, Statistics or related field and 3 years of experience in an information technology position.Experience must include:3 years of experience working in the finance industry and in-depth knowledge of complex financial products.1 year of experience working with business operations or sales in the life insurance industry.1 year of experience with machine learning / predictive modeling including regression, decision trees, clustering, random forests, and generalized linear models.1 year of experience with analysis packages and programming languages such as Python or R.3 years of experience with large datasets, SQL or other methods for manipulating relational databases.1 year of experience with visualization tools such as Tableau and Power BI to create dashboards and deliver insights.Experience may be gained before, during or after Master’s degree; and concurrently.About Manulife and John Hancock:Manulife Financial Corporation is a leading international financial services group that helps people make their decisions easier and lives better. The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
