Job DescriptionHybrid: This means the successful candidate is expected to report to their primary location (Warren, MI OR Mountain View, California) three times per week, at minimum.The Role:General Motors is at the forefront of the transformation of automotive with the electrification of our portfolio and the development of leading-edge central compute and autonomous capabilities. Our ECU Mechanical Design team is a dynamic, high-energy, and innovative group focused on developing mechanical and thermal design of next generation ECUs. The team is responsible for developing Mechanical and thermal design of new next gen ECU designs, with math and analysis. The team also reviews supplier made design changes on currently sourced SDV2.0 (Software Defined Vehicle) ECUs.We are seeking a high-performing Engineering Group Manager interested in leading the strategic development of GM inhouse mechanical and thermal design team. This individual will be depended on to build strong partnerships with internal and external customers, lead Design Development and Review of Electrical Controllers, for our next generation SDV (Software Defined Vehicle) architecture.What You’ll do:Establish and drive Mechanical & Thermal design strategy for the enterprise.Develop team capability to advance in-house design capabilities.Build partnerships with functional peers across the GM and Tier 1 supplier community to align on ECU design for DV and PV development cycles.Develop, train, and enforce process for Design development, Review forum, Test and Analysis to ensure on time delivery with first time quality.Recruit, provide people leadership and technical coaching for the team members, with a focus on math-based design principles.Develop virtualization technologies that help accelerate and de-risk product development.Create a high-performance culture; in which our people are aligned, focused on cost efficiency, empowered and accountable to win.Enable an inclusive and equitable environment for employees, customers, and partners.Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering / Electrical Engineering.Minimum of 10 years of engineering experience in design and development.Exceptional collaboration and teamwork skills; demonstrated ability for working across functional and organizational boundaries.Experience in 3D CAD (NX and Teamcenter), 2D drawings, and tolerance analysis, Design for manufacturability, and assembly.Strong analytical skills and engineering fundamentals in solid mechanics, material science, heat transfer, mechanism design, and manufacturing.Experience engaging with electronics manufacturers and ensuring product quality.What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Skills)Master’s degree/PhD in Mechanical / Electrical / Thermal Engineering.Strong comprehension of thermal design in automotive ECU products, Active participant of thermal design forums and standard bodies.Knowledge of thermal analysis tools like Star CCM, Flotherm, etc. and 1D tools like Matlab Simulink.About GMOur vision is a world with Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions and Zero Congestion and we embrace the responsibility to lead the change that will make our world better, safer and more equitable for all.Why Join UsWe aspire to be the most inclusive company in the world.
