Job DescriptionThe RoleThe Senior Software Development manager will be the leader for back-end systems that orchestrate Vehicle Software updates across GM. The manager will lead eight scrum teams, both directly, through management of one scrum team of software developers, and indirectly as a leader of leaders. The leader will be a hands-on tech coach, and subject matter expert on distributed system design, cloud deployment/scaling, and Java/spring boot-based back-end systems. The leader will set and enforce new technology and coding standards across the organization, raising the bar for software development practices and quality.What You’ll DoDirectly manage and coach software development managers and software developers.Build and enforce modern software engineering best practices, with a focus on quality, predictability, and business results.Collaborate with engineering, product management, and program management peers, and stakeholders to create technical strategies and roadmaps that support business goals.Oversee the planning and implementation of projects to ensure that they are completed to high standards, on schedule, and within budget.Actively participate in software design and code reviews.Build a culture of continuous improvement across the SDLC.Grow the ‘DevOps’ muscle of the team, effectively supporting the systems in production.Ensure compliance with legal and industry standards for data security, privacy, and governance. Collaborate with security teams to provide robust security protocols and controls across the vehicle update services- back office infrastructure.Required Qualifications10+ years of software development experience.3+ years leading team(s) of software developers.Expert in JVM-based backend distributed systems (Java, Kotlin, etc).Deep understanding of cloud technologies and best practices.Proficient in at least one modern Javascript-based frontend framework (i.e. React, Angular).Excellent oral and written communication skills.Preferred QualificationsExperience scaling software systems in public cloud environments (AWS, Azure, etc).Ability to develop, inspire and motivate team.Fosters collaboration and teamwork.Takes intelligent risks.Champion of change.Evidence strong character with integrity, honesty, accountability, and trust.Problem-solving.This role is categorized as hybrid.
