CSTs at Cayuga Medical Center are an integral part of the collaborative interdisciplinary team devoted to the delivery of comprehensive and compassionate care to the Tompkins County community. CSTs are able to practice at their full scope of practice, and have the opportunity to engage in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of programs and services with the goal of improving patient outcomes, and execute an optimal plan of care in a shared governance environment.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Adheres to AORN standards and hospital policies, including surgical hand scrubs, counts, and time-out procedures, to maintain operative patient care quality and safety.

Prepares the patient environment by stocking rooms, cleaning equipment, and maintaining infection control through proper handling and universal precautions.

Anticipates surgeon and anesthesia needs using preference cards, assembling necessary supplies, instrumentation, and equipment for each procedure.

Assists with patient positioning and preparation, and responds appropriately to changes in patient needs during operative procedures.

Identifies and mitigates potential safety hazards by removing faulty equipment and placing work orders for repairs.

Demonstrates flexibility, accountability, and continuous learning by participating in in-service education, performance improvement activities, and adapting to changes as needed.

Plans and organizes tasks efficiently to meet patient care requirements and unit needs, staying beyond the shift if necessary.

Required Skills and Experience:

License: NBSTSA or NCCT certification, or LPN license

Minimum education: must be a graduate of an Accredited Surgical Technology program, and eligible for certification

Physical Requirements:

Requires repetitive use of hands and fingers, such as using a computer keyboard, and involves lifting and carrying light loads up to 40 lbs.

Involves physical activities like stooping, kneeling, and reaching to manage equipment, boxes, IV solutions, and filing documents.

Necessitates prolonged periods of sitting, walking, or standing, and the physical ability to operate job-related equipment.

Pay Range Disclosure:

$30.00 to $39.28 per hour
