The LPN on Maternal Child Health is responsible for direct patient care to all patients within the Maternal Child Health department. The position will work collaboratively with all department members to implement and evaluate the patient's physical, psychological emotional, educational and spiritual needs under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse. Strong interpersonal and excellent communication skills are required as well as being able to interact with people from a variety of cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Dispenses medication within scope of practice and accurately documents in patients EMR. Plans for care of patients, demonstrating the ability to effectively prioritize both expected and unanticipated needs. Involves patients and families in establishing care goals.

Obtaining data related to patient care and recording accurately in the patients EMR.

Reports abnormal findings or changes in mental and emotional conditions of the patient to the RN. Examples include changes in vital signs, abnormal weight gain or loss, inability to locate a fetal heart rate, increase in pain, etc.

Responds promptly to call bells and patient needs.

Know what surgical procedure is being performed, follows AORN Guidelines/Hospital P&P for surgical hand scrub, anticipate surgeon's needs, make sure a "time out" has been called before handing scalpel to the surgeon, and maintain a sterile field.

Appropriately stocks all areas of the department, including the OR and does bi-weekly audits of the OR.

Knows how to appropriately perform and document a hearing screen.

Appropriately sets up, cleans (including equipment) and stocks after a delivery and C-section.

Full time night position with weekend and holiday rotation requirements.

Required Skills and Experience:

Current NYS LPN license.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

Will obtain BLS during introductory period, ACLS, PALS, and NRP within 6 months of hire.

Previous experience in Maternal Child Health.

Physical Requirements:

Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., use of the computer keyboard), light lifting in regards to patient care. Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time as it pertains to patient care. Must be physically able to operate the equipment used for the job.

Onsite.

Pay Range Disclosure:

$24.00 to $34.00 per hour.
