Job SummaryUnder general supervision of the Interim Associate Director of Student Involvement, the Student Engagement Coordinator develops and creates an environment that promotes the positive growth and development of students who affiliate with and lead recognized student organizations at SJSU. The incumbent is responsible for managing the recognition process through the campus platform, developing training and programs for leadership and skills development, and providing consultations for student organizations, advisors, and community stakeholders in regards to expectations, guidelines, and University policies and procedures. The incumbent works collaboratively with all Student Involvement clusters to ensure the quality, development, and success of student leadership for SJSU recognized student organizations and to share relevant campus activities and programming to student organization officers and their members.Key ResponsibilitiesAdvise recognized student organization officers and members individually and in group settings on student organization expectations and policies, organizational management and operations, and leadership and skill development.Support student organization on-campus advisors by providing the necessary tools to successfully support groups (orientations, informational meetings, newsletters, policy updates/reminders etc.).Develop and manage completion of annual online California State University (CSU) mandated training for student organization leaders.Identify needs and coordinate tailored training and programs for specific types of student organizations in collaboration with campus partners: identity centers, academic colleges, etc.Serve as a liaison to student organizations on use of technology platforms for organization management.Regularly keep up to date on all expectations and policies related to student organizations to serve as a reliable resource and consultant to students, advisors, and community stakeholders.Serve as a resource and respond to incidents that arise with student organizations including but not limited to community building, wellness education, risk management, conflict management, crisis intervention, policy development, student rights and responsibilities, etc.Oversee the annual re-recognition process for student organizations through the campus recognition platform.Market, promote, and oversee new organization recognition on an ongoing basis.Support other Student Engagement Coordinators in various programs and events including but not limited to fraternity and sorority programs, leadership development, recruitments, informational sessions, mixers, etc.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesAbility to communicate with constituents in a professional and respectful manner.Ability to provide consultation to multiple student organizations and familiarity with compliance issues relevant to student organizations.Knowledge of leadership development theory and best practices.Knowledge of compliance issues relevant to student organizations (i.e., hazing, alcohol, recruitment, Title IX, etc.).Skilled in developing training opportunities for student leaders.Demonstrated proactive leadership in the development of student affairs programs and collaborative relationships.Ability to initiate, plan, implement, and evaluate events as well as ongoing programmatic efforts.Ability to work both independently and with groups to assess needs, develop strategies, and implement programs.Ability to develop and implement strategic planning and outcome-driven assessment efforts.Ability to effectively train, develop, and supervise student staff.Excellent written, oral, interpersonal, and organizational skills.Ability to assist with resolving interpersonal issues affecting clubs or student organizations.Ability to advise students individually or in groups on routine matters, and general knowledge of principles of individual and group behavior.Ability to have independent judgment and specialized analysis.Ability to collect, analyze, and present relevant findings to inform program improvements.Required QualificationsEquivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related.Three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. A master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.Preferred QualificationsMaster's Degree.Experience with student organizations.Experience advising students.Experience with technology platforms.Experience with campus programming.CompensationClassification: Student Services Professional IIIAnticipated Hiring Range: $5,276/monthCSU Salary Range: $5,276/month - $7,517/monthSan Jose State University offers employees a comprehensive benefits package typically worth 30-35% of your base salary.
