BASIC FUNCTION:

Perform diversified duties pertaining to maintaining current rail transportation structures within the Gerdau Ameristeel freight system. Responsible for assisting with negotiating proposals, establishing and verifying shipping procedures. This position will solicit quotes and maintaining rate and freight tracking systems.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

This position reports directly to the Recycling Logistics Manager. Incumbent coordinates activities with regional area shipping managers, mill shipping supervisors, business support team, and accounting personnel.

Qualifications for this position can be demonstrated by a four year degree from an accredited college or university, combined with two years experience. However, eight to ten years relevant work experience is acceptable in transportation operations and administration, with exposure to a variety of logistics/freight concepts and procedures. Incumbent must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, and Access) as required to fulfill job duties and a working knowledge of database management.

This position is responsible for assisting with the negotiation of the companies rail, import and export distribution methods. Incumbent will provide logistics information for routine and established accounts to the raw materials group, mill products sales, and other departments as required.

This position serves as system wide administrator for freight systems by maintaining the freight rate tracking program, calculating various transportation rates, updating system with changes as required, and communicating between Gerdau Ameristeel shipping departments and information services. Additionally, the incumbent will maintain physical carrier files and contracts, and will train new users on the freight tracking system.

Incumbent works independently to analyze, summarize, and disseminate large amounts of highly confidential and classified information. Incumbent also independently analyzes new rate proposals, economic conditions, increases, and rate changes as needed to determine carrier competitiveness.

Incumbent solicits, reviews, and assists with the approval of new carriers. Within established procedures, this position will provide the accounting department with new carrier information to set up vendors in the carrier table for freight auto-pay purposes. This position maintains the fuel surcharge table as the National Fuel Index dictates to ensure that a correct fuel surcharge is added to the delivery ticket for auto-payment to carriers.

Incumbent communicates company standards and procedures to freight vendors. Will continuously evaluate carrier performance to ensure minimum standards are met.

On a daily basis, incumbent works with outside transportation service providers, Gerdau Ameristeel departments and locations, regional transportation managers, and mill shipping supervisors to obtain and provide information to meet logistics needs. The incumbent provides company terminals with applicable carrier information.

Incumbent evaluates, receives, and processes customer, carrier, and company transportation issues. The incumbent assembles the appropriate documentation, arranges for the resolution of rejected or damaged shipments, and authorizes carrier diversions and reverse logistics. The incumbent also follows up with written documentation to carriers, customers, corporate sales, insurance, finance, and credit departments.

Incumbent traces inbound and outbound rail car shipments with carriers or the use of electronic document interchange (EDI) systems. The incumbent provides Quality Transportation Services (QTS), 3rd party rail monitoring service, with bills of lading, and routings to expedite railcars that have been jeopardized while en-route or to prevent such from occurring.

Additionally, incumbent obtains proof of delivery of shipments for sales and credit departments. The incumbent manages and maintains the automobile lease program for GNA by monitoring mileage of vehicles to determine replacement, value of investment, and capital depreciation. The incumbent perform other related duties as may arise and provides support as needed to shipping locations, sales department or customers.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Responsible for assisting with negotiating proposals, establishing and verifying shipping procedures.Responsible for assisting with the negotiation of confidential contracts, rates and services, with rail at the most effective cost.Incumbent also independently analyzes new rate proposals, economic conditions, increases, and rate changes as needed to determine carrier competitiveness.On a daily basis, incumbent works with outside transportation service providers, Gerdau Ameristeel departments and locations, regional transportation managers, and mill shipping supervisors to obtain and provide information to meet logistics needs.Responsible for reviewing and evaluating, and processing customer, carrier, and company transportation issues.The incumbent manages and maintains the automobile lease program for Gerdau Ameristeel.The incumbent prepares and files Freight Claim documentation with Transportation Vendors in accordance with policy, and disseminates claim information to Gerdau Amersiteel logistics, commercial, and financial personnel as needed.The incumbent assists in investigating payment discrepancies, resolving issues related to incorrect data entry, and informs appropriate Gerdau Ameristeel logistics and financial personnel of non-conformances and corrective actions as needed. In the event that a system logic defect is discovered to be the cause of a payment discrepancy, incumbent will advise logistics management and information services to ensure that the defect is addressed.The incumbent perform other related duties as may arise and provides support as needed to shipping locations, sales department or customers.
