Senior Scientist/Scientist, Platform and Workflow Development
Spear Bio is a well-funded and rapidly growing start-up company based in Woburn, Massachusetts. We are focused on bringing to market a novel ultrasensitive immunoassay platform utilizing very small sample volumes. The commercial focus of the company is on supporting life sciences, clinical, and academic research. Our platform offers best-in-class sensitivity, lab-to-lab consistency, and flexibility.
We seek a highly innovative scientist with a proven track record in DNA nanotechnology, workflow automation development, and/or immunoassay method development to join our R&D team. The ideal candidate will play a central role in advancing our technology by leading various aspects of platform development and ensuring the robustness of assay workflows, from proof-of-concept to late-stage clinical validation. This role reports to the Head of Platform Development.
Responsibilities:
Explore and validate novel DNA-based assays, contributing to the advancement of our technology.
Develop and optimize assay workflows, conducting experiments to demonstrate feasibility, characterize performance, and ensure robustness.
Lead the development of high-throughput and automated Spear Assay workflows.
Stay current with emerging technologies and relevant literature, conducting extensive reviews to inform project decisions.
Provide guidance to junior staff, overseeing their projects and assignments.
Requirements:
Ph.D. in Bioengineering, Biophysics, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field; 2+ years of postdoctoral and industry experience preferred.
Proven track record in DNA nanotechnology, workflow automation development, and/or immunoassay method development with ambitious timelines and deliverables.
Strong analytical and programming skills in Python, R, and/or MATLAB.
Experience with instrumentation and LabVIEW programming is a plus.
Advanced experience with sensitive analytical platforms such as Olink Multiplexed Immunoassays, Meso Scale Discovery (MSD), Luminex, and/or Quanterix Simoa.
General Requirements:
Ability to work independently and understand the underlying theory and biology of the applications and products.
Strong presentation and interpersonal skills, able to establish collaborative working relationships across teams.
Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
Ability to work on-site in Woburn, MA, 100%.
