Neighborhood began five years ago as a family-owned cafe in the heart of Hollywood started by two brothers with a passion for coffee. We’ve built our brand on the simple premise that delicious specialty coffee can be served in a warm, welcoming, familial environment. Our shops are designed around the concept of hygge, a Danish term for a quality of coziness and conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment. In addition to the care taken with our physical spaces, we approach this goal by assembling a passionate team of people comfortable practicing “lean-in hospitality” while possessing a skill and passion for quality coffee. In April of 2023 we opened our second shop on 3rd Street and are looking for a General Manager to oversee the daily operations of each store in addition to helping maximize the efficiencies of having multiple cafes.We are seeking a Director of Coffee and Head Barista who will continue our mission of creating a warm and welcoming environment, who leads by example, and upholds our standard for high-quality, excellent tasting coffee every single day.As the Director of Coffee and Head Barista, you will work closely with ownership, management, and our cafe staff to maintain and improve our carefully curated coffee program. As a liaison between our team of baristas and roasting partners, you will be responsible for refining and continuously improving all things coffee. The job will involve barista shifts, coffee sourcing and cupping, quality control, training of team members, and other coffee-related activities.Responsibilities:Assume leadership for all aspects of the bar / coffee program including selection, quality control, roaster interaction, and purchasingDevelop guidelines and conduct ongoing quality control protocols to ensure that beverages are consistent with Neighborhood standardsPossess and display excellent knowledge of coffees, origins, flavor notes, and the various brewing methods, preparation, and presentationProvide oversight of the barista team to ensure quality results and enjoyable work environmentEffectively train newly hired baristas and establish standard operating procedures for teamsMaintain recipes and establish ongoing brewing guidelines while continuing to develop the drink menu including seasonal specialsEngage with our customers and team members about our coffee offerings with patience and a willingness to educatePerform routine espresso machine cleaning and provide oversight of the preventative maintenance schedules for all coffee equipmentActively work towards maintaining a superior experience through customer service, beverage preparation/presentation, in-store marketing, always with an eye on positive cultureIdeal Candidates:At least 3 years experience in specialty coffeeStrong espresso skills with a desire to be on barCoffee certification/education experience is a plusExcellent communication and customer empathy skillsExcellent multitasking skills, critical thinker and problem-solving skillsTeam player with good time-management skillsPhysical Requirements:Frequent standing, walkingAbility to occasionally lift up to 40lbsFrequent bending at the waist, reaching, grabbingReasons Why People Like Working At Neighborhood!Competitive compensation and benefits (health, vision, dental, 401k, and more)Complimentary drinks, coffee, and discounts on food and merchGrowing brand with deep roots in LA and desire to growRoom for promotion at every level of the teamCreativity appreciated!Passionate team who like working togetherWe’re an equal opportunity employer.
