Position Summary
Join a dynamic team in SUNY Geneseo’s Office of Alumni Relations as the Assistant Director of Alumni Relations. Help engage over 66,000 alumni across the nation and beyond to build affinity and support for the College. In this pivotal role, you will be a champion for SUNY Geneseo’s students, faculty, staff, and alumni, fostering lifelong relationships between the College’s internal and external constituents.
As the Assistant Director, you will create and implement meaningful events and programs—including planning, volunteer management, logistics, calendars, and budgets—in collaboration with a dedicated team. You’ll serve as the staff liaison to the Committee on Regional Chapters of the SUNY Geneseo Alumni Association and manage a network of regional volunteers. Additionally, you will spearhead efforts to connect alumni through the website, all alumni e-newsletter, and social media platforms.
Flexible hybrid work arrangements may be an option subject to NYS , SUNY , and Geneseo policies.

Required Qualifications
Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree by time of appointment.
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including proofreading abilities.
Demonstrated organizational, planning, and project management skills with a high attention to detail and the ability to effectively manage multiple and competing deadlines.
Demonstrated proficiency with technology, including social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn).
Experience and comfort interacting and communicating with diverse constituents, speaking in social settings, and portraying a professional image to all internal and external constituents.
Demonstrates a commitment to the college’s values of learning, creativity, belonging, civic engagement and sustainability.
Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours when needed. Ability to travel regularly to support regional events across NYS and the country; valid driver’s license required.
Preferred Qualifications
Professional experience in a related field.
Event planning experience.

Function 1: Alumni Events
Serve as the lead staff person, in collaboration with the alumni relations team, College Advancement colleagues, and alumni volunteers, to develop and implement a robust and diverse calendar of alumni engagement events across the country in key locations and virtually. Planning and execution includes, but is not limited to, scheduling, securing venues and catering, developing event programs and scripts, securing and working with event speakers, briefing staff including the College President, designing event registration pages and tracking registration, marketing and promoting events, attending events as needed to support on-site logistics, and managing event follow ups.

Function 2: Volunteer management & engagement
Serve as staff liaison to the Committee on Regional Chapters of the SUNY Geneseo Alumni Association. Manage regional alumni chapter volunteers (16 regions) and work with them to engage alumni in their region. Take an active role in regional chapter formation and chapter leadership transition.

Lead alumni communication efforts to update and improve the website, create and post content on social media channels and manage new channels as applicable, and create and distribute a monthly all alumni e-newsletter.
