Job Summary:
The Category Manager for the Produce Division will play a pivotal role in curating an extraordinary selection of produce that reflects our commitment to quality and sustainability. This position involves crafting category strategies, managing global sourcing relationships, and enhancing the customer experience with an elevated, farmers market-inspired approach.Key Responsibilities:Category Strategy Development:Create and execute a strategic plan for the Produce category that aligns with our high-end sourcing philosophy and farmers market feel.Analyze market trends, customer preferences, and seasonal opportunities to drive category growth and innovation.Global Sourcing and Supplier Management:Identify and establish relationships with top-tier global suppliers to source the finest produce.Negotiate contracts, manage supplier performance, and ensure consistent delivery of high-quality products.Product Selection and Merchandising:Curate an exceptional assortment of fruits, vegetables, and herbs that reflect both local and international standards of excellence.Develop and implement merchandising strategies that highlight the uniqueness and freshness of our produce offerings.Quality and Freshness Assurance:Oversee quality control processes to ensure all products meet our stringent standards for freshness and taste.Collaborate with supply chain and logistics teams to maintain optimal inventory levels and minimize spoilage.Customer Experience Enhancement:Create an inviting and educational shopping experience that echoes the charm of a farmers market.Develop promotional campaigns and in-store displays that engage customers and showcase the premium nature of our produce.Sustainability and Innovation:Promote sustainable sourcing practices and support initiatives that contribute to environmental and community well-being.Stay abreast of industry innovations and incorporate cutting-edge practices into category management.Cross-Functional Collaboration:Partners with marketing, culinary, Pricing, Retailing Services, Supply Chain, Product Information, and store teams to execute category initiatives and enhance overall product presentation.Works with Product Flow, H-E-B Supply Chain and Suppliers to ensure consistency of supply and service level objectives.Provide training and support to staff on product knowledge and customer engagement.Performance Analysis:Monitor category performance through sales data, market analysis, and customer feedback.Generate actionable insights to drive profitability, optimize assortment, and improve operational efficiency.Qualifications:Bachelors degree in business, Agriculture, Culinary Arts, or a related field.Minimum of 7 years of experience in category management or produce sourcing, with a strong preference for specialty grocery experience.Deep knowledge of produce sourcing, quality standards, and global supply chains.Proven ability to build and maintain high-quality supplier relationships.Strong analytical skills with the ability to use data to drive strategic decisions.Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.Passion for fresh produce and a commitment to delivering an exceptional customer experience.Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.Advanced level knowledge of computer software packages including use of PCs, Microsoft Office Software, H-E-B systems, internet and e-mailAdvanced knowledge of computer software packages / PC use (MS Office, H-E-B systems, internet, e-mail)Ability to manage multiple priorities and shift focus between projects / tasks; attention to detailInitiative and willingness to take risksPhysical and Other Requirements:Sit for an extended period of timeTravel by airplane or car with overnight staysWork extended hoursIf you have a passion for exceptional produce and a flair for bringing the best produce experience to life, we invite you to apply for this exciting opportunity.
