Bachelor’s Degree and/or at least 10 years of progressively responsible administrative management experience, including experience in public or political service and work experience managing complex projects and organizations. Must have experience managing students and staff.Additional Qualifications and Skills:

Outstanding communication and relationship building skills.Ability to work with minimal supervision.Experience in shaping and sustaining a program in an academic, public or non-profit setting.Evidence of ability to handle a wide variety of tasks and people in a fast-paced environment.Experience in managing, motivating, supporting, and leading a team.Experience working with college students preferred.Graduate degree in public administration or related field desirable.Experience in national or statewide campaigns a plus.Experience working with media and elected officials preferred.Travel is required and working during the academic year in the evenings and occasionally weekends.Position Description:

Reporting to the Director of the Institute of Politics, the Executive Director will work closely with the Director to manage all aspects of IOP programming and to establish and implement the overall strategy and goals of the Institute, including short- and long-term planning and developing new initiatives for the IOP. Additionally, the Executive Director will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the IOP including budget development and financial operations. The Executive Director will work collaboratively with the School’s leadership, faculty, students, Senior Advisory Committee, Fellows, alumni and the broader university community and represent the IOP and Harvard Kennedy School to a variety of internal and external constituency audiences.Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

Growth Strategy:

Works directly with Director to develop, refine and execute the IOP’s overall growth strategy, including playing a leadership role in expanding and maintaining a sustainable fundraising framework for the center.Operations, Administration and Human Resources:

Directs and manages all the IOP operations, including all aspects of logistics and programmatic development. Hires, manages, and develops program staff, ensuring a high level of professionalism, teamwork and focus on excellence.Financial Management:

Oversees all financial management for IOP and collaborates with the Senior Finance and Administrative Director of the IOP.Engagement:

Works with the Kennedy School’s leadership, faculty, students, benefactors, and others in ensuring that the IOP’s initiatives move forward and are integrated into the larger mission of the School and University.Job Summary:

The Institute of Politics (IOP) at the Harvard Kennedy School seeks a highly talented individual to serve as its next Executive Director. With demonstrated experience as a manager and leader, the Executive Director must also have a student-centered approach to effectuate the mission of the Institute. The Executive Director must have a background and knowledge of politics, service and civic engagement.
