Meanwhile Brewing Company is an award-winning 3-vessel, 15 bbl brewery and 600 seat taproom in Austin, TX. We are seeking a passionate Quality Manager to join our production team who will take full ownership of our Quality Assurance program as we continue to grow. We need an individual who is borderline obsessed with the process – and better yet, takes pride in the beer we make. You’ll work closely with the Brewmaster, Director of Brewing Operations, and Head Brewer to steer the direction of the brewery and make the most delicious beer possible.

Our Quality Manager:

Works with Brewery Leadership Team to ensure wort and beer are in compliance with standards and adhere to brand specifications.

Has strong communication, planning, and organizational skills to ensure actions are taken as needed to ensure adherence to quality standards.

Performs meticulous, consistent record-keeping and maintains our quality data system from Grist Analytics.

Manages inventory and ordering of lab consumables.

Is responsible for brewery yeast management, including cell counts and viability measurements, determining pitch rates, and assisting with yeast propagation.

Evaluates and documents microbiological stability of beer in process and in package in accordance with QC guidelines using qPCR.

Accurately performs analytical methods to measure beer parameters such as VDK, IBUs, daily sampling and testing of wort, in-process beer, and finished beer.

Monitors, tracks, and tests (as needed) incoming raw materials including malt steep, hop grinds, and municipal water.

Maintains cleanliness and functionality of analytical instruments.

Trains and manages a sensory panel, coordinating weekly quality panels, maintaining a quality retain library, and administering true to target, hedonic, and description tests.

Owns Quality Department SOPs and assists in the maintenance of SOPs for the brewing department.

Assists with training for brewing staff on quality best practices.

Assists with miscellaneous brewery duties, including basic cellaring work and inventory.

Researches and stays up to date on current industry trends and developments in brewing science.

Requirements to Apply:

This is a full-time salaried position – that’s 40 hours each week with occasional overtime.

You must be at least 21 years old with at least 2 years of brewing industry experience.

2 years of laboratory experience, preferably in the beverage industry.

Bachelor’s degree in Fermentation Science, Biology, Chemistry, or related field preferred.

Ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures and safety requirements.

This job is physical. You’ll be lifting 55-165 pound kegs, twisting/turning, reaching over your shoulders, climbing stairs, working in hot/cold/wet conditions, bending/stooping, and standing/walking.

You must conduct yourself professionally while representing Meanwhile Brewing Co. whether in the taproom or at an event/competition.

You must be open to sharing ideas and suggestions with the team.
