These values - integrity, patient-centered, respect, accountability, and compassion - must guide what we do, as individuals and professionals, every day.Operates extra-corporeal circulation equipment during any medical situation where it is necessary to support or replace the patient's cardiopulmonary or circulatory function and ensures the proper management of physiologic functions by monitoring the necessary variables. Scope of Practice includes, but is not limited to, the safe performance and/or management of:Extra-corporeal circulation/cardiopulmonary supportCounter-pulsationCirculatory support/ventricular assistanceExtra-corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO)Blood conservation techniques/auto-transfusionMyocardial preservationAnticoagulation and hematologic monitoring/analysisPhysiological monitoring/analysisBlood gas and blood chemistry monitoring/analysisInduction of hypothermia/hyperthermia with reversalHemodilutionHemo-filtration/Ultra-filtrationAdministration of medications, blood components and anesthetic agents via the extra-corporeal circuitDocumentation associated with described dutiesOther duties may include: Isolated limb/organ perfusion, Electro-physiological analysis, Organ preservation, Dialysis assistanceEEO/AA/Disability/VeteranResponsibilitiesPrepares for cardiac and non-cardiac procedures.Assesses patient medical status and calculates perfusion requirements (i.e. blood flow, BSA, CI).Conducts perfusion techniques.Monitors perfusion procedures and patient status to maintain appropriate patient vital signs, flows, temperature, pressure, etc.EducationMaintains CCP status through meetings, inservices and publications. Keeps current with new developments in perfusion technology and cardiac surgery.Communication and InteractionWorks well as a team member, lending assistance when needed.Competency Checklist or In-service ReviewACTQualificationsEDUCATIONGraduation from an accredited school of cardiopulmonary perfusion with a master's degree or a bachelor's degree program with four years of experience or a certificate degree program with eight to ten years of experience in Cardioperfusion.EXPERIENCEFour (4) years of related work experience with a bachelor's degree or eight to ten years experience with certificate only. Certified or eligible to be certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion.LICENSUREConnecticut State Perfusion License/ABCP Certified Clinical Perfusionist within one year of hire.SPECIAL SKILLSAnatomy and cardio-respiratory systems, specialized medical, mechanical and electronic equipment, medical, clinical and surgical procedures and practices, hospital organization and administrative policies and procedures.
