Operates extra-corporeal circulation equipment during any medical situation where it is necessary to support or replace the patient's cardiopulmonary/circulatory function and ensures the proper management of physiologic functions by monitoring the necessary variables. Scope of Practice includes, but is not limited to, the safe performance and/or management of:

Extra-corporeal circulation/cardiopulmonary supportCounter-pulsationCirculatory support/ventricular assistanceExtra-corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO)Blood conservation techniques/auto-transfusionMyocardial preservationAnticoagulation and hematologic monitoring/analysisPhysiological monitoring/analysisBlood gas and blood chemistry monitoring/analysisInduction of hypothermia/hyperthermia with reversalHemodilutionHemo-filtration/Ultra-filtrationAdministration of medications, blood components, and anesthetic agents via the extra-corporeal circuitDocumentation associated with described duties

Other duties may include:Isolated limb/organ perfusionElectro-physiological analysisOrgan preservationDialysis assistance

ResponsibilitiesPrepares for cardiac and non-cardiac procedures.

Assesses patient medical status and calculates perfusion requirements (i.e. blood flow, BSA, CI).

Conducts perfusion techniques.

Monitors perfusion procedures and patient status to maintain appropriate patient vital signs, flows, temperature, pressure, etc.

Education

Maintains CCP status through meetings, inservices and publications. Keeps current with new developments in perfusion technology and cardiac surgery.

Communication and Interaction

Works well as a team member, lending assistance when needed.

QualificationsEDUCATIONGraduation from an accredited cardiopulmonary perfusion program with a master's degree or a bachelor's degree. Master's degree preferred.EXPERIENCEPreferred two years experience with a bachelor's or master's degree. New grads welcome to apply. Certified or eligible to be certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion.LICENSUREConnecticut State Perfusion License/ABCP Certified Clinical Perfusionist preferred or must obtain Connecticut State Perfusion License/ABCP Certified Clinical Perfusionist within one year of hire.SPECIAL SKILLSAnatomy and cardio-respiratory systems, specialized medical, mechanical and electronic equipment, medical, clinical and surgical procedures and practices, hospital organization and administrative policies and procedures. Requires analytical, organizational and oral and written communication skills.Additional InformationNew Graduates welcome to apply.Day/Evening shifts with call coverage.
