This position is funded and hired through NCIRE- The Veterans Health Research Institute which is affiliated with San Francisco VA Medical Center and the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF).Essential Functions:Lab management experience: Assist in maintaining and monitoring all equipment and procedures for quality controlReview pertinent medical literatureDesign and execute experiments using molecular and cell biology techniquesProcess human biological samples, including isolation of cells from blood and tissues; store and ship samplesPerform molecular biology procedures, including DNA and RNA isolation, PCR, qRT-PCR, cloning, tissue culture, western blot analysis, and possibly othersPerform cell culture procedures, including culture of primary cells, flow cytometry, single cell analysis methods, and possibly other techniquesAssist with training of research methods and approaches to laboratory groupMaintain detailed written record of work performedPerform analysis of experiment results and findings, including data collection, entry, statistical analysis, and graph creationProduce written reports detailing results of experiments and analysis of results; draft manuscripts of results for publicationPresent oral and/or poster reports at laboratory, local, and national meetingsOutstanding interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a lab environment.Self-motivated, highly organized, and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.Adhere to data security requirementsPerform other duties as assignedJob Requirements:PhD in biological related science or master’s degree with 2+ years of relevant experience or bachelor's degree with 3+ years of lab management experienceKnowledge of principles and practice of molecular biologyExperience in cloning, tissue culture, patient sample handling, western blot analysis, PCR, qRT-PCRWorking knowledge of safety standards in laboratoriesExcellent organizational skillsCareful attention to detail; ability to accurately follow experimental protocolsAbility to manage multiple projects, tasks, and priorities to achieve desired goals.Ability to think creatively, solve problems, and meet deadlinesAbility to work under minimal supervisionComputer literacy with full working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and graphing softwareAbility to analyze data and perform statistical analyses.Ability to make sound decisions in a manner consistent with the essential job functions.The base wage range for this position is $64,480.00 - $93,060.24 per year. Salary and rank will commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience. The wage actually offered to a successful candidate will take into account various relevant and non-discriminatory business factors including, without limitation, the candidate’s geographic location, job-related experience, knowledge, and skills, and education, as well as internal equity considerations.
