DescriptionThe Vegetable Portfolio Manager has a strategic role in setting the direction for the product portfolio and requirements for introduction in a target category at PanAmerican Seed (PAS). With approval from the PAS Executive Committee (PAS EC), the Vegetable Portfolio Manager defines product direction and proposes a cross-functional roadmap to achieve goals aligned with broader organizational strategies and budgetary considerations. The Portfolio Manager is a vegetable subject matter and market expert and fulfills the role of advisor to the PAS EC. This team member champions the vegetable product line and R&D pipeline. They also work to support key customers and global partners.Responsibilities and DutiesAdvise on activities that allow PAS to develop, select and commercialize a pipeline of new vegetable products that align with corporate strategy, provide recommendations on resource allocation for future products, trialing and commercialization.Establish strategic goals for vegetable portfolio to achieve the highest return for the development dollar investment.Effectively coordinate with key stakeholders: Sales Director, Breeding Director and Operations Director to prioritize, gain agreement, establish timelines on budgets and resource allocation.Conduct ongoing overview of all the vegetable projects with Product Development Manager(s), review where each project is in the pipeline and expected launch date.Propose go to market strategy with global distribution partners on new and existing assortment.Make data supported recommendations on projects to continue with full resources, continued with reduced resources, delay or terminate.Explore new product development portfolio models and tools for a more defined, structured portfolio management process to help decision-making/makers be more effective and agile.Increased engagement with the portfolio customer/user to gain greater understanding of market needs/opportunities.Establish relevant gates & criteria for introduction into target portfolio for Product Development Managers. Work with Product Development Managers to ensure criteria are met before introduction.Provide input to Breeders and Portfolio Management on breeding goals for crops managed.Manage necessary aspects of trialing to ensure that appropriate and timely decisions are made on product introductions/product segments; read trials and make advancement and introduction decisions with breeders to achieve product line goals.Provide input for new product pricing & forecasting to Portfolio and Sales Management.RequirementsMinimum of 7 years’ relevant experience in vegetable portfolio in a product management, sales, growing, or trialing role.Bachelor's degree in horticulture or related field required.Ability to understand strengths and weaknesses of vegetable products at PanAmerican Seed and competitor products in relevant crops.Ability to develop strategic portfolio for approval by the PAS EC to set future direction for vegetable development and sales.Willingness to travel both domestic and international, up to 30% of the time, fluctuating seasonally.Ability to evaluate trials in greenhouse and field locations for long periods of time in all seasons at research trial sites globally and at grower customer/collaborators.Strong communication, negotiation and coordinating skills along with the ability to work well with a wide variety of people. English speaking required; Spanish, Dutch, or Chinese speaking beneficial.Demonstrated ability to prioritize and handle tasks with a high degree of accuracy.Strong computer skills including proficiency with MS Office; SAP knowledge beneficial.Builds strong-identity teams that apply their diverse skills and perspectives to achieve common goals.Applies knowledge of business and the marketplace to advance the organization’s goals.Builds partnerships and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives.Paints a compelling picture of the vision and strategy that motivates others to action.Physical Requirements:Ability to Lift/Carry 25 lbs 10% of the day.Ability to push/pull 50 lbs 10% of the day.Ability to sit/stand 80% of the day.Ability to kneel/bend 10% of the day.Ability to reach 10% of the day.Ability to climb/balance 10% of the day.Ability to use hands/fingers 80% of the day.Ability to work in hot and humid environmental conditions for 50% of the day.Our promise to you:Ball is a global leader in horticulture: we develop, produce, and sell plants around the world.
