DescriptionBall Horticultural Company is seeking a customer-centric candidate to manage the Premier Lab and provide strong leadership to the Operations Team responsible for seed enhancement, post-enhancement quality testing, cycle testing, third-party services, and quality programs.Job Responsibilities and DutiesLead a team of area supervisors and administrative employees to efficiently provide our customers with industry-best products, speed, service and quality.Meet cost objectives while continuously improving efficiency, quality and processes.Meet customer expectations for product quality and consistency.Collaborate with scientists and researchers to develop best practices and experiment with new tools and techniques to keep the operation best in class.Work with the maintenance staff and the on-site engineer to keep all equipment operating properly and safely.Develop a clear understanding of the primary department functions - coating, pelleting, priming and Seed Technology Services.Maintain a physically and emotionally safe work environment.Select and develop a high-performance staff:Provide regular training and cross training to all employees to provide coverage of all department functions while driving flexibility and maximizing efficiency.Facilitate daily, weekly, monthly meetings to effectively communicate vision, solve problems, make improvements, and develop staff.Provide positive feedback and address performance issues, conduct quarterly performance evaluations with all direct reports.Remain current with industry trends and compliant with industry regulations:Attend industry events to understand changes and opportunities in the industry.Stay up to date with regulations and USDA requirements for processing, handling and shipping seed.RequirementsFour-year college degree or equivalent.Three or more years of relevant seed industry experience.Past leadership experience managing a large team with tight deadlines and high customer expectations.SAP inventory management skills.Microsoft Office proficiency.Excellent writing and interpersonal skills with ability to effectively communicate with employees at all levels of the organization.Seed industry certifications a plus.Bilingual Spanish language skills beneficial.Holds self and others accountable to meet commitments.Attracts and selects the best talent to meet current and future business needs.Applies knowledge of business and the marketplace to advance the organization’s goals.Builds partnerships and works collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives.Creates department budget and meets budget expectations.Collaborates with internal R&D team.Sources supplies and components and negotiates prices.Physical RequirementsAbility to lift/carry 30 lbs 5% of the day.Ability to push/pull 50 lbs 5% of the day.Ability to sit/stand 100% of the day.Ability to kneel/bend 10% of the day.Ability to reach 50% of the day.Ability to climb/balance 5% of the day.Ability to use hands/fingers 100% of the day.Our Promise to YouWe create excitement in the world of flowers and are the first choice for service.
