Are you passionate about empowering students to succeed in higher education? South Dakota State University (SDSU) is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Program Director to lead our TRIO programs, including Student Support Services (SSS) and Upward Bound. In this pivotal role, you'll oversee initiatives that create transformative opportunities for students, helping them transition smoothly into college, build essential academic skills, and develop the confidence needed to thrive. This position is located in Brookings, South Dakota and is a 12-month, full-time, benefits-eligible position.
SDSU offers two TRIO programs designed to support first-generation and income-eligible students in their journey to college success. TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) creates a supportive community that helps students transition to college by providing advising, academic resources, peer mentoring, career planning, and involvement opportunities. The Upward Bound program prepares high school students for college by developing academic skills and motivation, while offering counseling, social, and recreational activities to build confidence. Both programs aim to enhance college access, preparation, and success through proactive support systems.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
To provide TRIO Upward Bound and Student Support Services (SSS) Programs leadership. This position is responsible for ensuring that two significant grants are administered in accordance with all federal, state, and institutional policies and procedures, supervising TRIO staff, and supporting Upward Bound and SSS student participants in their preparation for college entrance and college success.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Student Affairs, Educational Administration or related field completed by start date;
Minimum 3 years experience working with student success programs;
Previous experience working with TRIO Programs or students who are first-generation, low-income, or have a documented disability;
Ability to supervise staff and manage a budget and grants;
Basic computer skills;
Effective written communication skills;
Effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills; and
Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain one within 30 days.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of federal regulations concerning TRIO programs;
Understanding of individuals from other cultures and various backgrounds;
Demonstrated collaboration in developing student-centered, academic success programs; and
Grant-writing experience.
