JOB SUMMARY

THIS POSITION IS FUNDED EFFECTIVE 10/1/2024 AND THE HIRE DATE WILL NOT BE PRIOR TO 10/1/2024Reporting directly to a Court Administrator, the Court Clerk II is responsible for a variety of increasingly complex legal procedural duties in support of the Justice of the Peace Court involving the filing and disposition of criminal and traffic cases.EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

Provides customer service and performs detailed legal procedures associated with the receipt, review, processing and maintenance of court documents and case filesPrepares and processes varied legal procedures and documents including summons, subpoenas, notifications, motions, orders, judgments, abstracts, appeals and dismissalsSets court appearance schedule and assists with docket coordinationServes as courtroom clerk, as requiredPrepares a variety of reports related to case management and complianceCross-trains for departmental coverage of specialized duty assignmentsWorks with various local, county and state agenciesUtilizes legal reference materials to perform research related to current laws and proceduresSchedules court hearings and mails out noticesAttends all meetings and trainings, as requiredPerforms special duties as assignedCriminal Clerk Assignment:Performs transactions related to citations, warrants, pleas, booking sheets and time-served requestsPrepares, issues and recalls warrants and disseminates notificationsProcesses cash bonds, surety bonds, appeal bonds, bond forfeitures and bond surrendersProcesses Driver Safety course applicationsORGANIZATION RELATIONSHIPS

Position involves prolonged sitting at a workstation, prolonged reading, visual examination of documents, reaching, walking, twisting, bending, repetitive motions and standingPosition involves occasional lifting and carrying of up to fifty (50) pounds and exertion of up to twenty-five (25) pounds of force to move objectsENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS

Work is primarily indoors in an air-conditioned environmentHigh-volume court with stressful situationsInteraction with persons accused or convicted of crimesIRREGULAR HOURS

High school diploma or equivalentTwo (2) years of clerical experience, with six (6) months experience in a court or legal setting; or six (6) months experience in a Williamson County Court Clerk I positionOne (1) year cash-handling experienceWorking knowledge of specific job-related technologyPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

One (1) year of experience in a Williamson County Court Clerk I positionExperience with Odyssey NavigatorBilingual (Spanish)EMPLOYMENT TESTING
