Job Description
We are currently recruiting for a Principal to join CPP Investments’ Growth Equity team in San Francisco. The role will be evaluating, executing, and managing venture capital and growth fund and direct investments with an emphasis in healthcare. The position will be based in San Francisco, with travel expected. The Growth Equity (“GE”) team mission is to provide CPP Investments with strong returns and insights into the innovation and growth ecosystems by making fund commitments and aligned direct investments alongside top venture and growth managers across North America and Europe. GE currently consists of 20 investment professionals across offices in San Francisco and Toronto operating as a team integrated into our $190B Private Equity platform working closely with Public Equities, Credit, and Real Assets. As an ideal candidate, you have experience in venture and/or growth investing, passion and domain expertise in healthcare, an established network, and a demonstrated commitment to building a long-term career as an investor. In this role, you will be responsible for originating and executing both fund and direct investments. Role-specific Accountabilities: Demonstrate deep knowledge of the growth investing landscape with a focus on tech and tech enabled businesses Apply expertise to develop and execute on an investment opportunity pipeline and manage portfolio of investments Exercise strong investment acumen and judgment Take full responsibility for external partner engagement Lead investment processes in an integrated team environment that utilizes relevant internal and external insights to drive investment edge Lead due diligence, critically weigh evidence related to key underwriting assumptions Oversee development of models and documents and lead presentation and review with internal stakeholders Lead and develop junior team members Contribute materially to team culture Applicant expected to be in-office at least 4 days a week to contribute to collaborative team culture (excluding travel days) Qualifications
7-10 years of investment experience (private/growth equity, venture capital, fund investing, etc) Demonstrated ability to work well in teams, leading when appropriate, and commitment to fostering an inclusive culture Superior interpersonal and relationship skills Passion for the venture/growth equity innovation ecosystem and interest in both funds and direct investments Clear and proven communication and presentation skills (oral and written) Excellent research, modeling, and analytical skills Experience conducting due diligence under a compressed timeline, juggling multiple workstreams, and working with external stakeholders (e.g., venture capital and growth equity firms, investment banks, lawyers etc.) Willingness to travel (10-25% time) We are looking for pro-active self-starter candidates who are team-players, results-oriented and passionate about helping a team to be successful. Experience working in a high-performance culture and someone open to and comfortable with constantly evolving and changing priorities and new challenges is preferred. The salary range for this position is $215,000 to $323,000. US state/city legislation requires CPP investments to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. The base salary range shown here is a reasonable expectation for the posted role and is part of a competitive total rewards package which includes comprehensive benefits, a performance-based incentive plan, a 401(k) plan and paid time off. Actual salaries may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to, experience and expertise.
