position, grade Z13, in the Fugitive Unit.

About the PositionThis is dually allocated entry-level secretarial/administrative type work designed to relieve a lead person or supervisor of administrative detail. Good judgment and discretion are essential to the security of confidential information and data. Under close supervision, incumbents perform routine to moderately difficult office responsibilities. Responsibility extends to conveying important administrative information concerning the function and mission of the Office of the Sheriff. Work performance is evaluated in terms of accuracy and timely completion of projects and assignments.

About the AgencyThe Prince George's County Office of the Sheriff has been a vital link in the criminal justice system for more than 300 years, providing the citizens of Prince George's County with professional, transparent, and effective law enforcement service. The Office of the Sheriff serves as the law enforcement arm of the courts, responding to domestic violence calls, processing warrants, civil papers, domestic violence peace and protective orders, Emergency Psychiatric Petition (E.P.S.) orders, and the execution of evictions. The Office of the Sheriff is also responsible for court security, providing security and protection for visitors to our courthouses and securing courtrooms and holding areas. Deputies transport prisoners and are responsible for extraditing fugitives from other states.

Examples of Work

ADMINISTRATION

Processes entries on the National Crime Information Center system (NCIC).Receives felony warrants and Commitments for entry in, and/or removal from NCIC daily.Completes classification procedures, verifying accuracy of information presented for processing or updating warrant profiles in NCIC.Completes the notification, recording, and other administrative actions required to successfully process warrants and/or commitments into NCIC, or the Motorola PremierOne Records system.Maintains NCIC certification through Maryland State Police as required for purposes of NCIC entries, removals, and queries.VERIFICATIONS

Validates and verifies warrant information on NCIC printout, to ensure entry accuracy daily.Cross verifies NCIC entries with 100% accuracy.SERVICE AND DISPOSITION LETTERS

Reads, interprets, and converts information from arrest records, warrants, and other related materials, in accordance with Maryland State Police, and extradition guidelines, classifications, and codes to execute service and disposition letters.Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of the correct classification of all warrants according to extradition guidelines, and Maryland State Police reporting.Prepares and processes service and disposition letters to local, State, and Federal facilities with 100% accuracy.RECORDS MAINTENANCE

Maintains all statistical data daily for felony warrants entered into NCIC, folders pulled, and other daily work processes.Ensures all folders are returned to TTY Records in numerical order.Establishes and maintains filing system and logs to ensure that documents are readily retrievable.Completes and accurately turns in all required reports on or before scheduled due dates.CUSTOMER SERVICE

Manages telephone operations to provide efficient and accurate information in response to warrants, or other inquiries from the public or from Court Officials.Exercises independent judgment to determine which requires the direct attention of the supervisor, and which should be referred to other staff members.PERFORMS OTHER RELATED DUTIES AS ASSIGNED

Willingly and cooperatively performs tasks and duties assigned which may not be specifically listed in the position description but are within the general occupational category and responsibility level typically associated with the employee's class of work.Qualifications

High school diploma or G.E.D. certificate with coursework in typing, office practices, or other related clerical subjects.One (1) year of advanced diverse and/or technical clerical experience which must have involved working with the public for at least six (6) months.Applicant must be proficient in typing where required.An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

General Plan Information:

The Prince George's County benefits plan year is from January 1 to December 31.

A spouse (to include a same sex spouse) can be added to the health benefit plans. A marriage certificate and social security number is required to add a spouse.

Children under the age of 26 are eligible for coverage under the health benefit plans. This includes stepchildren and children of the same-sex spouse. A birth certificate(s) and social security number(s) is required to add a child(ren). If you are only adding the stepchildren or child(ren) of a same-sex spouse, you will need to submit a marriage certificate. You will also need to submit the birth certificate of the child(ren) and your spouse must be listed as a parent.

The premiums for health benefits are deducted on a pre-tax basis with the exception of Long-Term Disability, Extra Life Insurance and Voluntary Benefits (Short-Term Disability, Whole Life Insurance, Critical Illness, Accident Insurance, Cancer Indemnity, Hospital Indemnity Protection, Accident Indemnity Plan, Supplemental Dental and Group Legal Services).

New employees must enroll in the County's health benefit plans within thirty (30) days of the hire date.

The effective date of the health benefits coverage is the

beginning of the month following a waiting period of forty-five (45) days from the date of hire.

After enrolling in the County's benefit plans, employees may only make changes to the plans either during the open enrollment period, which occurs annually (usually each October), and/or during the year, due to a family status change (i.e., marriage, births, divorce and adoption).
