Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) is the organization that powers Microsoft’s core cloud platforms and services that millions of people use every day. The Datacenter Integration Services (DCIS) team is part of CO+I. The DCIS vision is to ensure Microsoft can deploy and operate cloud infrastructure for any offering, at any time, in any location, at any scale. DCIS is a core team that is integral to the planning, development, deployment, and intelligent operations of innovative technologies and offerings such as immersion cooling, the fastest public cloud supercomputers and for customers running their mission critical workloads or providing unique AI offerings such as Azure OpenAI service. The DCIS Strategy & Data team islooking for a Data Scientist to provide deep, data-driven insights into datacenter operations processes and systems that will inform strategy in key areas. Ideal candidates will have technical skill, business domain knowledge, and the ability to explain findings and concepts in plain language to a variety of business stakeholders at multiple organizational levels. Exceptional candidates will be able to work in an applied manner from concept through execution and will be able to drive and affect impact with their work. Your work will shape and impact outcomes in a variety of domains within datacenter process, operations, systems, and strategy. Responsibilities

Explore and analyze data to supply meaningful insights on a wide range of organizational processes.Communicate with technical and non-technical audiences and contribute modeling expertise as a team player.Partner with teams to identify and explore opportunities for the application of machine learning and predictiveInfluence across disciplines and teams to ensure we are making data-driven decisions and solving critical problems for our customers.Design, prototype, implement and test descriptive, predictive analytics, forecasting, and causal inference models.Bring relevant data into a central system to create a single version of the truth.Build and deploy visualizations that deliver insights to decision-makers at an array of levels, from executives to front-line staff.Mentor others and stay current with advances in the industry.Embody our culture and values.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Doctorate in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field.OR Master's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 1+ year(s) data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results) or consulting experienceOR Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 2+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)OR equivalent experience2+ years of experience using statistical computing languages (R, Python, Julia, SQL, etc.) to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets2+ years of experience visualizing complex data in popular frameworks or platforms (such as ggplot, Matplotlib, Plotly, Bokeh, Altair, Power BI, Tableau, Grafana, etc.)

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

Domain knowledge of datacenter operations, server repair, IT, and/or shop floor processes, and experience mining these processes to produce insights is preferred.Experience with advanced data visualization frameworks such as D3 or Observable Framework is a plus.Familiarity with deep learning frameworks, e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc., is a plus.Experience on large scale computing systems like COSMOS, Hadoop, MapReduce and/or similar systems preferred.Experience with working in cloud-based data science, database, big data processing, and reporting tools – preferably on Azure such as Azure ML, Power BI, Azure Data Explorer/KQL, Synapse, Databricks, etc.Experience working in an Agile/Scrum SDLC, preferably using Azure DevOps and GitHub.Excellent interpersonal, analytical, communication, and presentation skills – the ability to communicate complex findings in a simple manner.

Data Science IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,300 - $182,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $120,900 - $198,600 per year.
