Job SummaryResponsible for leading university-level external outreach efforts to support goals and priorities for government relations, economic development, and community relations. Oversees all operations and strategic initiatives for the Office of External Affairs. Serves as university liaison to external partners including elected officials, system office staff, governing board members, local community partners, and peer university colleagues. Oversees all event planning, program development, budget planning, staff management, and communications to advance KSU priorities at the local, state, and federal level. Serves as an advisor regarding protocol, finances, strategic communications, and program and event development to support university goals. Works closely with executive leadership to advance university-level initiatives and leads university advisory board coordination. Manages all operations and assigned staff within External Affairs.

ResponsibilitiesKEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Oversees all operations for the Office of External Affairs, including development and implementation of strategic initiatives, marketing and communications, and special events and programs for government and community relations and economic development outreach efforts.

Manages department budget under guidance of leadership and identifies strategic use of funds to support outreach initiatives.

Works in close collaboration with leadership to manage university-level advisory boards and manage inventory of individual advisory boards across the university.

Oversees all events and visits for the department to ensure a cohesive and professional approach for official visits, and serves as a protocol resource for events and external engagement across the university.

Responsible for shaping and implementing department strategies and developing cohesive communications and official correspondence for the department.

Serves as a liaison to all external stakeholders on behalf of the department and university in official meetings, events, and campus visits.

Develops and oversees innovative programs to support and advance university priorities at the local, state, and federal level.

Supervises administrative support staff in the department and leads coordination among all department staff and human resources needs.

Serves as an advisor and thought partner to the department and university, offering analysis and recommendations for external engagement and protocol.

Collaborates with internal colleagues to bring together appropriate stakeholders in advancing key initiatives and decision-making.

Responds to official requests of the university for constituent services, space, and other related requests.

Required QualificationsEducational Requirements:Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education.

Required Experience:Eight (8) years of relevant experience in university event planning, government relations, and advisory board management.

Preferred QualificationsPreferred Educational Qualifications:Advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education.

Preferred Experience:Previous experience with Operational Management, Budgeting, Strategic Initiative Development, and Communications and Marketing Development. Supervisory experience.

Knowledge, Skills, & AbilitiesABILITIES:Ability to plan and execute high-level university events and visits. Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time meeting assigned deadlines.

KNOWLEDGE:Knowledge of the basics of government relations at local, state, and federal level. Knowledge of the basics of community relations and outreach programming. Knowledge of the basics of public higher education governing board processes.

SKILLS:Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills. Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e. Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Creative Suite). Strong attention to detail and follow up skills. Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette.

Other InformationThis is a supervisory position. This position has financial responsibilities. This position will be required to drive. This role is considered a position of trust. This position does not require a purchasing card (P-Card). This position may travel 1% - 24% of the time.
