The Staff Accountant will play a crucial role in managing the financial health of our organization. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and supporting the financial needs of the organization. The ideal candidate will have experience in nonprofit accounting, a strong attention to detail, and a commitment to our mission.Key Responsibilities:General Ledger Management:

Verify, allocate, post, and reconcile accounts payable and receivable.Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded.Prepare and post journal entries.Monitor and reconcile bank accounts monthly.

Produce error-free accounting reports and present their results.Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.Analyze financial information and summarize financial status.Prepare reports (for the CEO/Board of Directors, grantors, contractors, etc.)Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and relevant nonprofit accounting standards.Efficiency and Process Improvement:

Spot and correct errors and suggest ways to improve efficiency and spending.Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures.Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.Ensure accurate records are maintained and integrated from across divisions.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

Assist in the development of the annual budget and monitor actual performance against the budget.Participate in financial standards setting and in the forecast process.Provide financial analysis and support for budgeting and forecasting processes.

Month-End and Year-End Close:

Responsible for month-end and year-end close process, including but not limited to balance sheet reconciliation, month-end journal entries, and reconciling entries.Ensures invoices are distributed and accounts receivable collected.Prepares and submits required monthly and annual statements (sales tax, statement of information, etc.)

Audit Preparation:

Provide internal and external audit support as required.Assist with the preparation for annual audits, including gathering and organizing financial documents.Address audit inquiries and provide necessary documentation to auditors.

Track and monitor grant/contract/restricted expenditures to ensure compliance with agreements.Identify and implement opportunities to maximize contract reimbursements.Prepare financial reports for funders and assist in audits as needed.Compliance and Internal Controls:

Ensure compliance with internal financial policies and procedures.Ensure compliance with GAAP principles.Protect the organization by keeping information confidential.

Other Duties:

Support with special projects and other duties as assigned.Act as a key finance resource and partner to support operations.Complete reports and submit information to entities to maintain business licenses, statements of information, etc.

Qualifications:BS degree in Accounting, Finance, or a relevant field.Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit environment.Strong understanding of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles.Familiarity with financial accounting statements.Experience with month-end/year-end closing processes.Hands-on experience with accounting software packages, QuickBooks Online.Accuracy and attention to detail.Ability to pass a background test.Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Must exhibit core values Integrity, Thoughtful Relator, Humble Achiever, and Grit.Preferred Qualifications:Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or pursuing CPA certification.Highly skilled in QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel.Experience with grant and contract accounting and reporting.Familiarity with federal and state compliance requirements for nonprofits.The pay range for this role is:66,560 - 70,000 USD per year (Santa Ana, CA)
