Position Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Estimator to join our team. The Estimator will play a crucial role in analyzing and preparing cost estimates for land development projects, ensuring that our projects are financially viable and align with budgetary constraints. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in land development, construction estimating, and project management.
Key Responsibilities:
Cost Estimation:
Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for land development projects, including grading, infrastructure, utilities, and other site improvements.
Analyze project plans, specifications, and drawings to determine material, labor, and equipment requirements.
Evaluate subcontractor and vendor quotes and proposals, ensuring they align with project scope and specifications.
Budget Management:
Develop and manage project budgets, providing detailed cost breakdowns and financial forecasts.
Monitor project expenses and update estimates as needed to reflect changes in scope or unforeseen conditions.
Project Analysis:
Conduct thorough take-offs and quantity surveys to support accurate cost estimation.
Review and assess site conditions, project risks, and potential cost impacts, providing recommendations for cost-effective solutions.
Collaboration & Communication:
Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely cost estimation.
Communicate with production home builders to understand their specific requirements and incorporate them into the cost estimates.
Provide clear and detailed explanations of estimates to internal teams and clients, addressing any questions or concerns.
Documentation & Reporting:
Prepare and maintain comprehensive records of estimates, including cost data, pricing, and project assumptions.
Generate reports and analysis on cost performance, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
Market Research:
Stay informed about industry trends, material costs, and labor rates to ensure competitive and up-to-date estimates.
Conduct market research to benchmark costs and incorporate industry best practices into estimating processes.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field. Professional certifications (e.g., Certified Estimator) are a plus.
Minimum of 10+ years of experience in estimating for land development projects, with a focus on residential construction.
Strong knowledge of land development processes, including grading, site preparation, and infrastructure development.
Proficiency in estimating software and tools (e.g., ProEst, PlanSwift) and Microsoft Office Suite.
Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex plans and specifications.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in cost estimation and budgeting.
Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work well in a team environment.
