Senior Accountant

This role will report to the Assistant Controller and will contribute to the daily accounting operations for Best Friends Pet Hotel including but not limited to preparing and filing tax returns, ensuring compliance with tax laws, providing insightful tax advice to the company and preparing financial reports. The Senior Accountant is motivated by a strong understanding of accounting principles, is detail-oriented and is able to work independently and collaboratively.
Essential Job Functions:
The incumbent must be able to perform all of the following duties and responsibilities with or without a reasonable accommodation:
Prepare, review and file sales tax returns
Manage real estate tax accounts and timely payments
Ensure proper documentation for all tax-related activities and timely submission of tax filings and payments
Stay up-to-date on changing tax laws and regulations to advise management on their implications and potential tax savings, credits and incentives
Collaborate with accounting team members to develop tax-efficient strategies and solutions
Assist with tax audits and inquiries from tax authorities
Provide monthly, quarterly and yearly tax reports to management
Support close process by reconciling tax accounts
Ensuring compliance with accounting standards, government regulation and GAAP
Drive operationally excellent, predictable and repeatable processes, using metrics, to achieve the required outcome of financial performance across the Company.
Manage and perform special projects and duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
In-depth knowledge and understanding of tax principles
Ability to adhere to highest standards of confidentiality and discretion in all proprietary business, financial and employee matters
Proactive, organized and driven self-starter with ability to pull reports to synthesize data and build the strategy for the enterprise to follow.
Able to adapt to an evolving and high-performance work environment
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
A sense of ownership and pride in your performance and its impact on the company's success
Requirements:
3-5 years of Accounting and/or Finance experience, in the services/hospitality field preferred
Strong knowledge of tax regulations, laws and best practices
Strong communication skills to effectively convey complex tax information
Attention to detail and high level of accuracy in completing assignments
Advanced computer skills including MS Office Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
Experience with Great Plains or other similar accounting software
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or relevant field.
