OPPORTUNITYThe Senior Accountant has a critical role in supporting Green Dot’s mission to prepare students for college, leadership, and life. They will be the expert in charter school funding and be in charge of preparing charter school financial statements. They will have a thorough knowledge of GAAP for nonprofit organizations and will train and advise school sites on financial accounting matters. The Senior Accountant will develop improved tools, processes, and approaches to ensure that work is done in the most effective and efficient manner. This position is part of the financial team and reports to the Assistant Controller. The Accounting team plays a key role in the organization. Their work is critical to informing decision-making, facilitating oversight and compliance, and training school-based staff. This is a role serving as part of Green Dot California’s central office team, primarily based in Los Angeles.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIESPrepare bank entries and journal entries to support a cluster of schools including, but not limited to, weekly school site cash deposits, EFT receipts, and revenue accruals.Prepare invoices for accounts receivable, and see through collection.Guarantee timely and accurate month-end close by meeting daily, weekly, and monthly deadlines.Reconcile all items on the balance sheet on a monthly basis.Review transaction reports and financial statements and discuss with accounting team members and finance.Assist the compliance team in reviewing the classification and treatment of revenues and expenses related to special programs, to ensure all grant funds are utilized.Help schools prepare for audit visits, ensuring appropriate controls are in place so that all dollars are used to advance student outcomes.Provide answers and support to school and business managers so they can make informed school site decisions.Build relationships with school site and central office staff.Work with schools to ensure compliance with department policies and procedures.Be a part of the team and culture by participating in school-related events and visits.Contribute to the development of a strong finance & accounting department that reflects operational best practices.Contribute to the creation and enhancement of financial policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with nonprofit accounting standards.Evaluate and enhance internal control processes, recommending improvements to safeguard assets and ensure financial integrity.Stay abreast of changes in accounting regulations, nonprofit compliance standards, and industry best practices, incorporating relevant updates into daily operations.Special projects and other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONSAs an ideal candidate, you:have a minimum of 3 years (5 years preferred) of progressive professional work experience in accounting or a related field.have a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university in accounting, business administration, or a related field.are a CPA (preferred).have Workday experience (preferred).have knowledge of procedures and internal controls of GAAP.have experience with non-profit audits, including federal, state, and local compliance (preferred).are able to maintain positive relations with colleagues at all levels—including central office staff and school-site administrators and staff.are able to simultaneously manage multiple projects, while maintaining a firm grasp of individual project details; meeting and/or exceeding project goals with the highest quality.have a high level of personal responsibility, a growth mindset, and an A+ work ethic.are dependable, humble, have a sense of humor, and a rock-solid commitment to Green Dot’s mission and the communities we serve.will need to pass a TB test and background check at time of offer.

COMPENSATIONThe starting salary range for this role is $82,000 - $88,000. Please note that candidates who are new to their role or newly promoted can expect offers between the minimum and the mid-point of the range. To allow for salary progression over time, offers at the top of the range are rare. Individual education and experience will be considered when issuing offers.
