Major Responsibilities:Performs specialized or general procedures according to established departmental protocols.Performs ultrasound procedures for vascular, obstetrical, and other specific areas as required.Operates all types of Ultrasound equipment. Performs portable exams in various areas throughout the hospital, including the Operating Room and Intensive Care Units. Records images and makes hard copies where applicable.Uses RIS to schedule and complete exams as applicable. Processes labels, folders, and films.Serves as a resource to sonographers, MDs, and students.Assists in the care and maintenance of facilities, equipment, and supplies.Maintains a clean and safe work area. Reports any hazardous conditions or equipment breakdown to supervisor.Provides proper patient care. Interviews patients for required information. Explains procedures to patients to ensure their understanding, cooperation, comfort, and to optimize test results. Positions patients as required. Exercises care when moving patients to ensure their comfort and safety. Takes vital signs as required; informs physician of changes.Maintains patient records and statistics accurately.Labels sonograms properly to assist in diagnosis and to ensure correct identification. Provides test information to physicians. Notifies physicians immediately of results revealing patient risks.Maintains records, reports, and files as required or directed.Standard Staffing Level Responsibilities:Complies with established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.Attends a variety of meetings, conferences, and seminars as required or directed.Demonstrates use of Quality Improvement in daily operations.Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.Respects diverse views and approaches, demonstrates Standards of Respect, and contributes to creating and maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility, and acceptance toward all employees, patients, and visitors.Maintains regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.All responsibilities are essential job functions.II. Position Qualifications:License/Certification/Education:Required:Specialized post-secondary training equal to two years of college.Experience/Skills:Required:Registration required by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).Unless certification, licensure, or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.III. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:Work is considered sedentary.
