Trauma Critical Care Surgeon

Position Details:Employed position with Desert Trauma Surgeons, Inc., a private practice group that contracts with Desert Regional Medical Center (DRMC) in Palm Springs, CA. The group is a shared Trauma/ICU/ACS/General Surgery practice comprised of 22 surgeons, a fully staffed NP/APP service, ACGME Surgical Critical Care fellows, and ER residents from DRMC and Eisenhower Medical Center. DRMC is a County Level I Trauma Center with an upcoming ACS Level I site visit in 2024. It is part of the Riverside County Trauma System - encatchment includes two counties, three states and is the fourth largest county in California. Approximately 5000 trauma evaluations annually (10% penetrating, 90% blunt, with a high volume of blunt operative trauma). ACS volume is commensurate: approximately 1000 acute care surgery evaluations/annually (~50% operative), and ICU volume ~ 500 annually. Modernized ED and trauma infrastructure (whole blood, TEG, rib plating program, advanced wound care, robotics, and a full range of surgical subspecialists). General surgery private practice opportunity as well. Service is busy but with a lot of help (average census 40-80 patients/day), the staffing model is three surgeons (one Trauma, one ACS, and one SICU) on during the daytime and nighttime with backup coverage (attending/fellow/resident). Full-time work requirements are 16 twelve-hour shifts/month, with the opportunity for additional shifts/overtime pay if desired. The group expanded trauma/ACS services to JFK Memorial Medical Center in Indio, CA to establish a Level IV trauma program (surgeons cover both sites). The group also manages a General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care Fellowship. Opportunities in the near future for fellowship and residency directorships are potential opportunities for those interested in such a career path.

Applicant Requirements:MD or DO and must be certified by the American Board of Surgery. The ideal candidate will be Board-Certified in Surgical Critical Care as well. We are looking for candidates who are highly motivated, have excellent communication skills, and are goal-oriented. This position calls for someone with a strong commitment to education for residents and fellows as well as strong leadership skills.
