Academic Trauma / ACS Surgeon

The Department of Surgery at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center is seeking an academic surgeon within the Division of Trauma / Acute Care Surgery. Candidates must be board-certified or eligible in general surgery and have completed a fellowship in surgical critical care. Excellent communication skills and an interest in working in a collaborative, team-oriented environment are a must. Candidates must have, or be eligible for, a California medical license. Harbor-UCLA Medical Center is a 531-bed, Los Angeles County Level I trauma center located in southwest Los Angeles and serves as a major teaching hospital for the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. The annual trauma patient volume is approximately 4,000 with an 80/20% blunt / penetrating patient mix and a wide breadth of emergency general surgery cases. Recently modernized trauma bays and 16 operating rooms are equipped with state-of-the-art equipment. A new inpatient tower and educational space are being constructed.

Responsibilities:Responsibilities will include in-house coverage of the Trauma/Acute Care Surgery Service as well as the 20-bed Surgical ICU. Strong consideration will be given to diverse candidates with demonstrated community engagement and a commitment to caring for underserved populations. Demonstrated activity in scholarly research projects and evidence of excellence in surgical education are essential. A recommendation for an academic appointment to the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA at the Assistant, Associate or Professor level will be made, commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
