JOB DEFINITION:

Work with the CN Guidance NCTSI Team to increase access to trauma- and grief-focused treatment and services for our Long Island area's most underserved children, adolescents, and their families who experience these untreated or undertreated traumas.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

At a minimum a youth peer must have a high school diploma, high school equivalency or a State Education Commencement Credential and possess a credential recognized by the Office of Mental Health, and receive specialized training and supervision required to be acquired within 6 months of employment.

A person aged 18-30 years old who has lived experience with mental health and/or co-occurring behavioral health challenges in their home, school and/or community. Must have valid NYS Driver's License and the ability to drive for required field work.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serve as a role model for recipients.

Assist with completion of NOMS.

Educate recipients about self-help techniques and self-help group processes.

Teach effective coping strategies to recipients based upon personal experience.

Teach symptom management skills and assist in clarifying rehabilitation and recovery goals.

Assist in the development of community support systems and networks.

Provide opportunities for youth to expand the skills and strategies necessary to meet their personal, individualized life goals, develop self-advocacy skills, and support their transition into adulthood.

Offer support necessary to ensure engagement and active participation of the youth in the treatment planning process and the ongoing implementation and reinforcement of skills.

Actively engage in agency-wide trainings and work groups as well as grant-specific trainings on and for the trauma treatment model.

Facilitate sharing of data with the individuals to whom it applies to facilitate partnered decision-making and to keep clients informed of progress.

Identify and implement quality improvement trainings and activities as part of professional development goals.

Complete Quality Improvement Training during onboarding and participate in Quality Improvement refresher training as needed.

Ability to cultivate a culture of inclusion for all employees that respects their individual strengths, views, and experiences.

Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for all employees.

Demonstrate a commitment to maintaining a safe work environment by following established safety guidelines.

Other duties and assignments as requested by the Program Director.
