Your role as Product Design Engineer will be critical for improving the quality and durability of Utilimaster's vehicles.You will also be accountable for driving new product improvement and new product development projects, maintaining legacy products, and overseeing the conceptual design of new components and sub-systems, staying within the limits of our manufacturing equipment and assembly capabilities.Driving new product improvement and new product development projects and maintaining legacy productsOversee the conceptual design of new components and sub-systemsDesigning engineering solutions that are accurate, timely, and cost-effectiveAnalyzes new designs using CAD layouts, stack-ups, analytical tools, and various internal applications and techniques to solve engineering challengesGenerating DFMEAs for components and sub-assemblies and generating design validation plans and reportsUsing Lean and Six Sigma techniques to achieve simplification and commonizationExecuting test plans to fully validate components and systemsDrafting and communicating engineering reports in support of the validation processEnsuring your solutions meet customer expectations, perform over the warranty period, and comply with regulatory requirementsPreparing presentations and communicating plans and results to suppliers and customersMaintaining quality standards through following proper inspection proceduresApplying problem-solving techniques and methodologies to manufacturing and assembly problemsEvaluating engineering solutions and understanding unintended consequences for manufacturing strategies, tooling, and optionsLaunching revisions to drawings, solid models, and bills of materialUtilizing Aurora software to research specifications, structure, and component parts compatibilityWhat you need to be successful:Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering discipline2+ years of product design engineering solutions expertiseTrack record of utilizing problem-solving and analytical skillsAwareness of cost drivers related to a range of materials, design features, and manufacturing processesWorking knowledge of SolidWorks 3D CADVersed in reviewing and modifying assemblies, models, and detail drawingsExpertise in engineering statics, dynamics, structural mechanics, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamicsProficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and OutlookAbility to work independently with minimal direct supervisionA track record of prioritizing effectively and executing multiple concurrent assignments Proficient with program management and time management toolsWhat Makes You Stand OutUnderstanding of the extrusion process, metal fabrication, forming, tolerances, and capabilitiesProduct Design experience within the on-highway, heavy truck, specialty, or automotive vehicles sectorsA solid grasp of FMEA, FEA, CFD, lean manufacturing, and design for six sigma (DFSS)Additional Resources2022 Sustainability ReportOur YouTube ChannelOur LinkedIn PageWhy The Shyft Group?We believe that when our people thrive personally and professionally, our business thrives.
